Anthony Scipione Obituary

ALBANY - Anthony Scipione passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 4, 2024. Anthony was born on January 24, 1932, in Abbateggio, a small village in Abruzzo, Italy, son of the late Frank and Flavia DeCesare Scipione. He immigrated to the United States at the age of three with his mother, brother and sister, reuniting with his father in Albany, New York.
After graduating high school, he was drafted into the Army and served as a medic in the Korean War while stationed in Japan. He was honorably discharged from the military in 1954, then accompanied his mother back to Abbateggio where he first met and married his loving wife, Cristina, of 68 years.
Upon his return to the United States, he finished his degree at Hudson Valley Community College and began a 38 year career with the New York State Department of Transportation as an Architectural Draftsman.
Anthony was a devoted Catholic at St Vincent de Paul Parish. He loved telling jokes and tinkering around the house. Anthony loved nature and animals, and enjoyed the outdoors. He also loved listening to music and would occasionally play the harmonica. He cherished his family and deeply enjoyed their company, especially during family gatherings. His greatest joy was to dress up as Santa Claus and hand out gifts to all the family members at Christmas time.
Anthony is survived by his wife, Cristina; daughter, Kristin and son-in-law, Adrian; son, Anthony and daughter-in-law, Teri; and three granddaughters, Angela, Julia and Nicole; brother of the late Mary DeMarco (Peter) and Joseph Scipione; son-in-law of the late Sante and Rosa DeThomasis; brother-in-law of Josephine Gimondo, Anna DeThomasis, Marino and Matilda Nardone, Anna Ruzza, Nicola and Filomena Popolizio, and the late Anthony and Rose DeThomasis, Larry DeThomasis and Franco Ruzza; many nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
The family would like to thank Dr. Carmen Giuliano, all the medical staff at St. Peter's Hospital, and medical staff at the Veterans Administration for all the attention and care they have given Anthony over the past several months. Also, thank you to Landmark and Marquis for all the medical care received at home.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Anthony's family Thursday, January 11, 2024 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent De Paul Church, Madison Ave., Albany, New York. His Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. The Rite of Committal will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park, Schenectady, New York. To leave a message for the family, please visit www.LGFuneralHome.com

Tony and Family, I am sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. Tony we used to joke about what it was to be Italian, but what defines us is a table with family, friends, food and drink. The energy of those who have sat around that table never leaves. I wish the best for you and your family.
