10 years!
I can't believe it has been that long already. So much has changed yet so many things have not. The memory remains so deeply in my heart.
I love you Anthony! God Bless you and keep you in Heaven to watch over us.

Diane,
Your story has inspired me to teach others about your faith. In my grade 11 world religions class we were assigned a project that would pick a current event article and inform our class about it. I chose yours, so I would be able to talk to my peers about not giving up faith. I thought I should let you know your story has touched people everywhere. My prayers are with you.

As I cross-stitched your name on the memorial that I am doing for all of the victims, I prayed for you and your family. Please know that your death was not in vain. We will always remember. God Bless.

6 years later it doesn't get any easier. I still miss you so much Anthony. I have a picture of you in my room so I can say hi everyday. Jenna watches the names on TV every year so she can hear your name and see your picture. She misses you all the time still

Tears came to my eyes as I wrote this note, just as they did last Friday June 16, 2006 when I attended my son’s graduation from St. Patrick’s School, as they called my son’s name Robert Acevedo Jr. and announced that was the 5th recipient of the Anthony Starita Memorial Award. I was very touched and very proud of my son for his accomplishments. I logged onto the internet in order to know Anthony Starita’s life story. I was deeply saddened to know that this award was created due to the terrorist acts of September 11, 2001. Be assured that my son will try to honor Anthony alive at St. Peter’s Boy’s H.S. by studying hard, excelling in classes, and sports. My prayers and thoughts are with the family. I know Anthony is now in the grace of God. God Bless.

For those of you who have not been to Anthonys resting place

Anthony...
I have written notes in other areas of the internet dedicated to the 9-11 victims... But only now have I seen this one. I still miss you everyday and think about you often. You still are like the brother I wish I had.. and your god daughter Jenna talks about you often and I tell her about you so she will never forget you. I love you and hope to see you again one day up in heaven or in my dreams like I have in the past.

We have just returned from my oldest son's graduation from St. Patrick's School SI, NY. He has been chosen to receive an award in honor of Anthony Starita. This award is the most touching thing that has happened to my family. I can not express in words how proud we are to have our son Eric to be walking in the same path as Anthony. Eric will be attending St. Peters Boys H. S. this fall. Thank you for this most gracious and generous award. Anthony sounds like he was a very fun loving and caring person. May God Bless his family and friends.

Anthony,

I am the grandson of your father's first cousin, Frank. Although I do not believe we ever met, your passing, exactly one year ago today, is something that truly touched my heart in so many ways.

Ironically enough, I was supposed to also work for Cantor. I graduated from St. John's University in May of 2001. Midway through my final semester, while my job search was in full-swing, a friend of mine submitted my resume, as well as a personal referral, to a friend of hers, working for the Firm. I did not even know of this until the next day, when she informed me that they had a position they thought would be perfect for me, based on my backround and her kind words, however, they needed someone capable start immediately. Although it was an incredible opportunity, they understood that I could not go through 3+ years of college, to leave a mere month and a half before graduation.

Not a day passes that I do not wonder why that opportunity did not come two months later, and why I was not in that building, along with you. In the same, not a day passes that I do not think of you and your young family. Everynight, since that horrific day, I say a prayer for you all, and ask God to bless you all, especially your children.

Since January, I am now working for Morgan Stanley. Each of my co-workers were occupants of World Trade Center 5, and they have told me how wonderful it was working there (in the Trade Center). They told me how they worked there, shopped there, ate there, drank there, and even had their parties there. However, they also informed me of each of their own personal tales of terror, from that day.

We are now located in Jersey City, NJ. Our building is directly across the water, and everyday I look over in utter amazement, wondering how on earth something like this could ever happen.

I would like to apologize for not attending your service, along with my grandparents, and parents, but I could not bring myself to do it. I do want you to know though, that since we have moved into our permanent location, I have the prayer card from your service placed on my desk, and I will continue to keep it with me for the rest of my career.

You sound like an incredible person, with many of the same qualities as myself. I wish I would have had the opportunity to meet you... I think we would have gotten along just fine. Perhaps we will meet someday. Save me a spot up there in Heaven, and in the meantime, I will continue to keep you and your family, in my thoughts and prayers always.

My heart goes out to Anthony and his family & friends... although I only knew Anthony for a brief time in our lives, I knew he was a terrific and caring guy .. we had Coached opposing Football teams in the SI Pee Wee FB League back in 1991 and 1992.. he had a great desire to teach and help kids back then, even though he did not have his own son playing ball.. that was a rare dedication ... we had an enjoyable and fruitful season and enjoyed helping each other out, whenever possible.. the kids on his team -LOVED to play for him... I wish his family well in these difficult times and pray that you have the strength to carry on as I am sure he would have wanted...

May God watch over you Anthony ...

As someone who played Little League ball on one of the teams coached by his Dad, and as fellow St. Peter's grad, I wanted to pass on my sympathies to the entire Starita family. I hope that as time passes, you'll be left with only the fondest of memories.

diane, I just read your article in the times on-line. I am a good friend of Ann and Steve Curiale, and I am the rabbi at their synagogue. I have heard a lot about you and just wanted to let you know how heartbroken we are about your great loss. What a beautiful article and beautiful memories. I know that you will cherish them for ever. Such a hard tragedy for adults to understand so I can imagine the confusion your children feel. I pray all your hearts find peace. We are so very sorry for your loss of Anthony. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
