Anthony Taylor Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home - Columbia on May 25, 2025.
Anthony Robert Taylor, was born on December 31, 1951 in Columbia, South Carolina, the beloved son of the late Prince, Sr., and Wilhelmina Garrett Prince Taylor Sr. He departed this life on Monday, May 19, 2025, at PRISM Health Richland Medical Center in Columbia, South Carolina.
"Tony Red", as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was educated in the Public Schools of Richland County and graduated from Booker T. Washington High before its closing in 1974 (a historical landmark currently owned by the University of South Carolina). He attended and played at South Carolina State University from 1973-1975 and then went to training camp for The Washington Red Skins. He subsequently played semi-pro football for The Augusta Eagles. He remained an avid lover of sports his entire life.
Tony was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and a friend, who was also a mentor and father figure to many; some even reference him as a provider in the community. Tony Red was an advocate for all and believed that every man had a right to justice and equality. He was a passionate teacher, a man of wisdom, and a trail blazer, who often made and walked his own path unapologetically. He had a heart of gold and a contagious sense of humor. He will be remembered as legend and hero to all those who were fortunate to have crossed his path.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Karim Aquil, Mitchell Taylor, Squire Taylor, Mozelle Butler, Verdell Jordan, Serivia Diggs, Jaquita Garrette, Angie Taylor, Ellanor Caughman, and Darrollyn Taylor.
He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife, Sandra Taylor; and his only daughter, Felicia (Tony) Weathers; four special sons, Ronald (Tomika) Taylor, Lorenzo Taylor, Prince (Tomeka) Taylor Jr., and Keith Summerville, three brothers, Dawud (Elease) Aquil, Prince (Barbara) Taylor Sr., and Eddie (Lizette) Taylor; two sisters, Stella Taylor and Annette Taylor; two special friends, Robert Taylor and Mario Taylor; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss him.
