Anthony Tomasello Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services - Monaca on Sep. 25, 2022.
Anthony J. (Tony) Tomasello of Sewickley Heights passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2022. He was the loving son of James and Mary (Viola) Tomasello and cherished husband of his wife, Jan.
Born in Pittsburgh, Tony's family moved to Monaca, PA in 1955 where he lived until college. He attended St. John the Baptist Elementary School and Monaca High School, graduating in 1964. He attended the University of Pittsburgh and obtained a Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1968.
His engineering and business career started in the late 1960's with a multi-national process equipment, engineering and construction firm. His work was focused on building a domestic technical network for the company's process equipment and introducing it to the international market. He also founded, grew and subsequently sold a specialized consulting engineering firm. Tony moved to Chicago in 1990 and became the Executive Vice President and Chief Technical Officer of Stericycle, Inc. which specialized in regulated services and the associated risk management to the healthcare community. He joined the company in its infancy and led the effort in developing and commercializing its intellectual property and operations both nationally and internationally. He was instrumental in Stericycle's growth to its current position as a world leader in the field.
Upon retirement, he decided to return to the Pittsburgh area. He and his wife, Jan, built the home of their dreams in Sewickley Heights. Tony, with a love of building any type of structure, was completely immersed in every aspect of building the house and enjoyed the entire process.
After a short retirement hiatus, Tony joined iNetworks as Senior Managing Director where he focused on providing strategic technical and commercial guidance to its portfolio companies. With work as one of his passions in life, he was always ready for a new project and a new challenge.
Tony is the holder of multiple domestic and international patents and his work has been featured on the 20/20 television magazine program.
He was the recent Chairman and Director of the Board of Novian Health, a privately held medical device company in Chicago, IL focused on providing women with a minimally invasive alternative to surgery for breast tumors; Board Member of Penn Health Group, an approved, physician led grower and processor of medical marijuana; Board Member of Empower Clinics, Vancouver, BC; former member of the Merrill Lynch/Bank of America Client Advisory Board; former Trustee and Finance Committee Member of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra; and a founding supporter of Man-Up Pittsburgh.
Tony had an amazing ability to communicate across cultures and to establish relationships and friendships both locally and internationally. He was a connoisseur of good wine and fine dining and he loved to travel and to entertain at his home. He had a warm and gracious way about him; there was always time to mentor students and to share his wisdom and skill with anyone who asked.
He is preceded in death by his parents James and Mary Tomasello, their brother-in-law, John Milligan and his father-in-law, Nick Rojak.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Jan, sisters and brother-in-law, Grace Milligan and Anna and Tom LoFaso, all of Monaca, mother-in-law, Margaret D. Rojak, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ginna and Brad Battista, Nick and Nancy Rojak, Diane Rojak Bannister, nieces and nephews, Jim (Jennifer) Milligan, Josie (James) Swope, Natalie (Kevin) Anderson, T.J. (Carrie) Lofaso, Joanne (Chuck) Chirico, Josh (Dee Branch) Milligan, Colin Rojak and Dana Rojak.
He is also survived by several great nieces and great nephews, an uncle and aunt and many cousins.
The family will received friends on Wednesday, October 12th from 3 -6 pm at the SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca.
