Archie Mobley Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Lt. Col. Archie S. Mobley Jr. (Ret) passed away on November 24, 2025. He was born on December 18, 1941, the oldest of three sons of the late Archie S. Mobley Sr. and Pauline (Arnold) Mobley. He grew up in Terre Haute, IN. After graduating from Otter Creek High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force, returning to Indiana in 1967 to pursue his AAS in Aviation Flight Technology at Vincennes University (1969). He later earned a BS in Management Arts, graduating magna cum laude from New Hampshire College in 1974. He met Susan Merrill, his future wife, during a chance trip to Cape Cod in the summer of 1968. They married the following year, and he was her devoted husband for 54 years. They resided in Nashua for 51 years.

Archie had many interests and held a variety of jobs throughout his life. Early on, he worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and Anaconda Aluminum before finding success in medical sales. Although he enjoyed his work, he considered his time in the military his greatest accomplishment. After 38 years of combined reserve and active duty service, he retired in 2001. He served in both command and staff positions throughout his career, including as an Interim Adviser to the Air Combat Command Surgeon and as the Associate Administrator of the Langley AFB, VA Hospital during Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

Archie regularly attended Nashua Baptist Church until mobility became a challenge. He was also a past president of the Nashua Jaycees (1975–1976). In his free time, he enjoyed reading, writing, gardening, music, and all things aviation. Most of all, he took great joy in watching his six grandchildren grow.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Susan.

Archie is survived by his brothers, John S. Mobley and his wife, Jane, of Indianapolis, IN, and David Mobley of Terre Haute, IN; his children, Heather Mobley Taylor and her husband, Greg, of Satellite Beach, FL, and Archie Mobley III (Scott); and his six grandchildren: Gabriel Taylor, Abigail Taylor, Joshua Taylor, Cole Mobley, Mason Mobley, and Owen Mobley.

Services: Visiting hours will be held Sunday, December 7, from 4–7 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Home in Nashua. A service will follow on Monday, December 8, at 10:00 a.m., also at the Davis Funeral Home. Interment will take place at noon at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to Southern New Hampshire Rescue Mission: PO Box 1024, Nashua, NH 03061 or hope4nashua.org.
