Archie Wade Morris
July 19, 1932 - October 30, 2025
Archie Morris passed away early Thursday morning at his Sedgefield home, just as he wished. Archie was an only child but was surrounded throughout his life by a large and loving family on both sides. He graduated from Greensboro High School and attended Wake Forest University on a football scholarship. Except for his college years and four years in the Navy, serving aboard the USS Columbia and the USS Albany in the early 1950s, he lived his entire life in Greensboro.
Archie's working life began just down the street from where he grew up, at the Boar & Castle. He went on to serve as assistant golf pro at Starmount Country Club, worked as a "repo man" for Commercial Credit, and later joined E.F. Craven after completing his naval service. When he met Dotti Peacock, she famously told him to "get a real job and we'll get married." He did just that, with help from his Navy buddy Bill Walke, who introduced him to Temple Moore. Archie began managing, and later owned, Windshield Glass, a downtown Greensboro business founded by Temple in 1961. The company continues to operate today, a lasting reflection of his dedication and work ethic.
Archie was blessed with and devoted to a multitude of friends, from his high school buddies to his "Old Coots" coffee group at Newell's in Wrightsville Beach, to his cherished companions at Sedgefield Country Club. He and Dotti loved Sedgefield and all that came with it, boats (ok, maybe just Dad) and the ocean! He was preceded in death by his treasured Dotti, many dear friends, and many beloved dogs.
Archie is survived by and loved deeply his two daughters, Beth Gobble (Dan) and Jane Harkey (Scott); two grandchildren, John Harkey (Megan) and Elizabeth Pass (Ryan); two great-granddaughters, Margot and Aida Jane; and his last dog, River. The family extends heartfelt thanks to special friends Sharon and Ricky Profitt, Kay Greeson and David and Sheila Saunders, as well as their Sedgefield community, for their love and support.
A graveside service of remembrance will be held at 2 p.m., on Sunday, November 2, at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will gather afterward at the home of Jane and Scott Harkey in Sunset Hills. Memorials may be made to Muirs Chapel UMC, Glaucoma Research, or any dog charity close to your heart.
