Archie Lee Smith Jr., 70, of Atkinson, NC, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024. He was born on Sept. 9, 1953 in Garland, NC to the late Archie Sr. and Addie Smith. His love of the water led him to his home on the Black River.
Archie had a successful career with the North Carolina Department of Transportation. After 25 years, he retired in 2015, as the NCDOT Division Six Bituminous Supervisor. He was well respected in his field.
Archie was an avid fisherman and hunter. His passion, understanding, and appreciation of the outdoors allowed him to teach others about life through the many beautiful canvases of nature that God created. Many knew him as a friend and mentor who inspired all of us with his knowledge, wisdom, and life experiences. He will forever be remembered for his kindness, compassion, and love for people. Those who knew Archie knew he never met a stranger. Family and friends loved listening to his stories and eating anything he cooked, especially his fried catfish nuggets!

To the members of the Smith family please accept my deepest and most heartfelt condolences with the passing your beloved Archie. I'm one of his old friends and a classmate from Garland, NC. We graduated from Garland High School in 1971. It has been many years since the last time we saw each other and I'm saddened to think that I wasn't fortunate enough to see him since that time. I pray that our beloved Lord will bring peace, comfort and blessings to all the members of the family in this time of loss. God bless and keep always!
Sincerely yours,
Kenneth Anderson
