Ardell F. Buth

Ardell F. Buth, age 94, of Moorhead, MN died on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at ValleyCare and Rehab in Barnesville, MN.

  
Ardell, son of Ferdinand and Edna (Gehrke) Buth was born on February 10, 1929, in Barnesville, MN.  He attended country school in District 18, Deerhorn Township.  He grew up on the family farm in Wilkin County, MN.  After graduation from high school in Barnesville in 1947, he worked for Amour and Company in Fargo, ND.  He enlisted in the US Air Force and was stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Alabama for nearly three years, before going to Korea for one year.  He was honorably discharged as Staff Sargent in August of 1952.  He then attended the University of Minnesota until his brother Gordon was drafted into the Army.  Ardell then took over the family farm operation until Gordon was discharged.  At that time they decided to farm as partners.  They farmed for 27 years when they decided to sell the farm.  

Ardell was a member of the Minnesota Crop Improvement Association and grew certified seeds and potatoes.  He was a member of the Minnesota Farm Bureau and was president for 10 years of the Wilkin County Farm Bureau.  He was a charter member of the Professional Farmers of America.  He was involved in politics and a life member of the VFW.  

After retiring, Ardell moved to Moorhead and was then united in marriage to Ruth Grams on November 27, 1982 at Trinity Lutheran Church.  They made their home in south Moorhead for 23 years until Ruth’s passing.  They also wintered in Mesa, Arizona for 12 winters.  For entertainment, Ardell enjoyed being at the Lakes with family and friends.  He and his wife enjoyed dancing at the Elks Lodge and Eagles.  Most recently Ardell has been a resident at ValleyCare and Rehab in Barnesville, MN.  

Ardell is survived by his sister Janice Getz, two step children William (Laura) Grams and Mary (David) Hutchinson and four step grandchildren.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents Ferdinand and Edna Buth, his wife Ruth, and three brothers Gordon, Marvin, and Wallace Buth.  

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the memorial service.  Memorial services for Ardell will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville, MN with Rev. Eric Souer officiating.  Burial of cremains will be at Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Mitchell Township, Wolverton, MN.  Military honors will be provided by the Air Force Honor Squad and the Barnesville VFW & American Legion Honor Guard.
