Areli Ann Woody passed away on October 2, 2025, from complications of dementia. She was predeceased by her father James, mother Marie and husband Ray. She is survived by a sister Marria, brother Gil (Sharon), niece Mary, nephews David and Josh, great nephew Antwan Devin, extended family members and her dear friend and neighbor Wayne Lloyd. Areli was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 29, 1946. The family lived in Washington, DC and eventually settled in Alexandria, Virginia. This is where she met and married her beloved husband Ray. They spent nearly fifty years together before his death in 2023. Areli started her career working at Beneficial Finance, Olde Colony and Virginia Imports where she developed many friendships. After working for a number of years in private industry, she became interested in seeking employment with the Federal Government. She felt that the change would not only be good but beneficial in planning ahead for the future. She landed a position with the Treasury Department and stayed with the government until her retirement in 2012. One of Areli's passions was cooking. She loved to cook and exchange recipes with her friends. She would make notes as to how good a dish was and if it warranted being served again. She also enjoyed going to and participating in yard sales. Areli had a soft spot for animals. Over the years, she rescued and took care of a number of dogs and cats in need of a home. After being diagnosed with dementia, she lived in the memory care unit at an assisted living facility. She adjusted to this structured environment and enjoyed participating in various activities being offered, especially snack time. The family is profoundly thankful to Wayne Lloyd for his unrelenting dedication to and friendship with Areli and Ray. We will be forever grateful. There will be a graveside gathering of family and friends on Wednesday October 8 at noon at Mt. Comfort Cemetery.
