Arlene Matchie

Arlene Matchie, age 95, of Radcliffe, IA, passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at the Zearing Health Care Center, Zearing, IA.
Arlene Hazel Matchie was born on July 2, 1928 in Hardin County to Joseph Melvin and Sadie Christina (Sampson) Pickett.
She attended country school, finishing high school in Radcliffe. She received normal training and taught in a country school by Garden City.
On June 12, 1949, Stanford (Johnnie) Matchie and Arlene were married in Zion Lutheran Church of rural Radcliffe. After their marriage, the couple lived near Beaman, Melbourne, Ackley and then moved back to her family's home place five miles south of Radcliffe.
Arlene and Johnnie had four children: Stanford Jr. (died in infancy), Sharon, Steven, and Larry.
Arlene was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church serving as custodian, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, member and officer of Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Concord Township Farm Bureau women's group. Arlene was an avid flower gardener, often bringing her flowers to church. The family enjoyed her butterhorn rolls, kringla, and scalloped corn along with many other treats.
She is survived by one daughter, Sharon and husband Clifton Erhardt of Gaston, OR; two sons Steven and wife Anita (Topp) of Radcliffe, IA; Larry and wife Vonda (Van Meeteren) of Roland, IA; six grandchildren Morgan (Jil) Erhardt and Jessica (Jake) Moevao, Brett Matchie and Katie Matchie, Sara (Jason) Street and Chad (Stephanie) Matchie; seven great-grandchildren Aidan Yeazel-Matchie, Chloie Shaffer-Matchie, Blake and Blair Matchie, Taimane and Penina Moevao, and Kyler Street.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, mother, father, one son Stanford Jr. and one granddaughter Erin Matchie.
