Arlene Virginia Carlson Mock
August 11, 1931-April 29, 2023
MASON CITY-Arlene Virginia Carlson Mock, 91, of Mason City, passed away Saturday evening, April 29, 2023. She was born on August 11, 1931, to Ralph Victor Carlson and Rooka Sarah Bryant Carlson in Des Moines. Arlene grew up on a farm in Polk County and attended school in Sheldahl, IA.
Arlene moved to Des Moines and graduated from AIB College of Business. While in school, she met the love of her life, James J. Mock and married on October 15, 1950. They lived in Downers Grove, IL, Indianola, Waterloo, and Mason City since 1966. She worked for Stoyles Printing for many years prior to her retirement. Jim and Arlene were together for 67 years until his death in 2017. They had three sons, Deane (LeAnnetta) from Boulder, CO, Rodger (Teresa) from Mason City, and Thomas (Rhonda) from Grimes, IA.
Arlene was dedicated to her family and especially loved her grandchildren, Tyler Mock of Ankeny, Nathan Mock of Mason City, Courtney Andreas of Portland, OR, Elliot Mock of Humbolt, Jennifer Skaw of Longmont, CO and Ben Harding of Boulder, CO. She also had 4 great grandchildren, Dakota, Sebastian, Emily and Mikayla of Longmont, CO.
Arlene loved to entertain family and friends and was known for her excellent meals and talent for baking. She also enjoyed watching sports, mainly her Minnesota Twins, Vikings, and Iowa Hawkeyes. Most of all she was known for her kindness, patience, and a generous loving heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Velma Shearer; and brothers, Marion and Harold Carlson.
The family would like to thank the staff at Homestead Assisted Living of Mason City, MercyOne Cancer Center and MercyOne North Iowa Hospice for their excellent care and compassion. Arlene chose not to have a visitation or funeral service. Her wish was for family and friends to celebrate in the way she enjoyed the most, over a meal and dessert.
This celebration of life will take place on Friday, May 5, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 100 S Pierce, from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers please send donations to MercyOne Cancer Center or North Iowa Hospice.
