Arlene Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel - Knoxville on Dec. 10, 2025.
Arlene Mae Smith, born on May 2, 1943, in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2025, at the age of 82 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Arlene was a proud graduate of her local high school. Her passion for education led her to a rewarding career as a teacher, where she touched the lives of countless students with her loving and patient nature. Later, Arlene brought her nurturing spirit to the hospitality industry, where she managed a motel with the same care and attention she gave to everything she loved. Her interests were as vibrant and diverse as her personality. Arlene was an avid fan of Elvis Presley, and her love for his music often filled the rooms of her home, bringing joy and energy to all who visited. Her enthusiasm for NASCAR was ignited by her favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt. She enjoyed watching baseball and could often be found cheering on her favorite teams with spirited devotion. Wrestling matches, too, captivated her, and she delighted in the thrill of the sport. Arlene's hobbies included a cherished collection of bells, each with its own story and place in her heart. Her favorite bird, the cardinal, was a symbol of her vibrant spirit, and the sight of one would always bring a smile to her face. Arlene's love for poinsettias was well-known; their bright red and green hues mirrored the deep love and life she brought to every holiday season. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Antonio Velazquez; parents, Mabel Miller and Earl Smith; siblings, Raymond, LaMar, Shirley, and Morton. She is survived by her daughters, Angelina and Toni Lee; grandchildren, Stephanie, Lisa, David, Christopher; great-grandchildren, Heather, Alaria, Justic, Joey, Xander, Mason and Layla. Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Smith family and invites you to view and sign the online registry.
