BASTROP, LOUISIANA

Mrs. Arlene Carter Graves Sumner was born in Ashley County, Arkansas on March 5, 1931 to the late William Frank Carter and Mary Carpenter Carter. She passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, January 18, 2026 at Lagniappe Healthcare in Bastrop, Louisiana. Along with her parents, Arlene is preceded in death by her step-mother, Nellie Carter; her brothers, Dale Carter and Grady Carter; her husbands, Floyd Graves and Jack Sumner, Sr.; and daughters-in-laws, Susan Sumner and Martha Sumner.

Mrs. Sumner, a former beautician, was a member of the Central Church of Christ and Naff Street Church of Christ. She was known for her love of quilting and was an active member of the Cotton Country Quilters in Bastrop. Mrs. Sumner loved her family, her Christian brothers and sisters, and her quilting friends. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and friendliness she so fondly shared with all fortunate to know her.

Arlene is survived by her sons, Charles Graves and wife Peggy, Jim Graves and wife Connie, Mike Sumner, and Jack Sumner, Jr. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Laura Graves Winkler and husband Terry, Lucian Graves and wife Christy, Corey Sumner, Sarah Sumner Salvati and husband Joe, Heather Graves Tinnin and husband Kevin, Haley Graves Russo and husband Justin, Jonathan Sumner, and Jeremy Sumner; and ten great grandchildren, Londun Graves, Raia Graves, Tucker Winkler, Emma Winkler, Carly Tinnin, Owen Tinnin, Beckham Tinnin, Emma Russo, Lyla Salvati, and Emmett Salvati.

The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 1:00 PM Friday, January 23, 2026 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop followed by funeral services at 2:00 PM at the funeral home with Travis Arrant officiating. Mrs. Sumner will be buried at the Prairie Grove Cemetery near Fountain Hill Arkansas under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop, Louisiana.

For those who wish, the family suggest planned memorials for Mrs. Arlene Graves Sumner be made to the Naff Street Church of Christ, 3955 Naff Street, Bastrop, Louisiana 71220.
