Armando D. Torres, 79, of Stanley, ND, formerly of Bacoor, Cavite, Philippines, was called home suddenly by our Lord and Savior at the Mountrail County Medical Center in Stanley, ND on August 31, 2025.
Armando was born at home on January 28, 1946, as the second of seven children to Leocadio and Angela Torres in Pasay City, Manila, Philippines. He grew up around the Philippines, in Pasay, Batangas, Cavite. He met the love of his life, Josefina Catubig in Makati City, Philippines, and they were married on December 10, 1972, at the St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church in Bayambang, Pangasinan, Philippines, Josefina's home province.
Armando and his bride moved to Bacoor, Cavite in the early 1980s, where Armando later built the house they lived in with his own hands. Armando worked prolifically with his hands as a stonemason and carpenter, and often served as foreman for his construction crew, which often included his siblings Noel and Louie, and his nephew Ogie.
He worked overseas in Saudi Arabia as the foreman of a construction crew, spending only a couple of years apart from his family. He loved his family so much and missed his wife and children dearly while they were apart. He returned to Cavite, Philippines after working overseas and resumed his life with his beloved family and resumed his work as a construction foreman.
He and Josefina worked hard to build a life together in Bacoor, Cavite. While Armando was working, Josefina ran a neighborhood grocery store out of an addition to their house, providing staples for the local community. They cherished their Sundays, going to the St. Joseph Diocesan Shrine and Bamboo Organ Church in Las Piñas, Metro Manila. They would also go out to eat, sightsee, and get together with family after Mass. Armando delighted in family outings, visiting friends and neighbors, and loved his community.
Armando volunteered to be a member of the Barangay (neighborhood) citizen watch and donated his time to patrol his neighborhood to keep it safe and had a wonderful relationship with the Barangay police. He was very pleased with this kind of volunteer work and founded and organized the South Gawaran, which is a village that gave people a chance to own a lot and build their own house when there weren't many options for an average person to be able to own their own place to live.
In 2011, his petition to become a permanent resident of the United States of America was finally approved, after waiting almost 25 years for the approval. He originally applied for permanent residence through his sister Linda and was later petitioned by his daughter Dianna. He moved to Virginia with Dianna and Chris and their infant daughter Serafina, and in 2012, they moved to North Dakota. Armando started working at the Mountrail Bethel Home as a housekeeper and worked there until March of 2025.
Armando very much enjoyed spending time with his mga apo (grandkids) and loved to travel and go on adventures with the family. He got to visit many places in and around Asia, Canada, and the US. His last major trip was a vacation to Hawaii in 2024, where he got to experience his aloha with his ohana, and to the Philippines in April 2025 to visit all his kapamilia.
He was a bright light to his family, friends, and everyone that knew him. He was kind, considerate, compassionate, and always willing to help others in need. His passing leaves a hole in our lives, and life just won't be the same without him. He often said in the last few months that he was ready to go home, and he said that trusted in Jesus. He misses his love, Josefina and is now closer to her again.
Armando was preceded death by his beloved wife, Josefina; parents, Leocadio and Angela; his brother, Leopoldo; his sister, Louie Torres; and his daughter, Jacqueline Torres.
He is survived by his sisters, Azucena Moreno of Daly City, CA, Linda (Cecil 'Jim') Moulton of The Villages, Florida, Dely Ribu of Bacoor, Philippines; and his brother, Noel 'Manny' (Rosie) Torres of Stanley; his sons, William, and his children, Ajie, Arvin, Arianne, and Shemea; Danilo, and his children, Trisha, Katrina, and Angelo, and Christopher Torres and his and Christoffer Chaim; and his daughter, Dianna (Christopher) Beehler and their children, Nathan Torres, Serafina, Samantha, Markus, and Maximus Beehler; along with his in-laws, Catherine, Teresita, Gina, and Marie; and a multitude of nephews, nieces, great grandkids along with all his cherished relatives.
