SSG Nicholas Eric Vigneur, US Army (Ret.), 48, of Columbia, died on Thursday, November 20, 2025. Born on January 4, 1977, in Madison, Illinois, he was a son of the late Michael Vigneur and Lois Wager Vigneur.

SSG Vigneur began his military career by enlisting in the US Navy. Following his naval discharge, he enlisted in the US Army where he continued to honorably serve his country until his retirement. While deployed in Iraq, SSG Vigneur received numerous decorations for his valor, including Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Service Defense Medal with Bronze Service, Overseas Service Medal, and a Purple Heart. After his military retirement, he was employed in various cyber security positions. Most recently he was a consultant for IBM. SSG Vigneur enjoyed playing the piano, singing, fishing, traveling, and most importantly being a father.

Survivors include his wife, Michal Johnson Vigneur; children, Calliope Vigneur of Columbia, SC, Archer Vigneur of Columbia, SC, Isaiah Vigneur of Rock Hill, SC, Isaac Vigneur of Rock Hill, SC, Noah Vigneur of Omaha, NE, Kevin Vigneur of Omaha, NE, and Nathan Vigneur of Omaha, NE, as well as his half-brother, Todd Meltzer of Los Angeles, CA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lisa Meltzer.

The funeral service for SSG Vigneur will be held at 11:30 o'clock on Friday, December 5th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road ext., Columbia, SC. Burial will follow at 1 o'clock at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC.

The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 10:30 o'clock.
