Mr. Art Johnston, 84, of Henderson, passed from this life on November 15, 2025, in Henderson. He was born July 9, 1941, in Alpena, Michigan to the late Robert and Lillian (Enger) Johnston and has lived in East Texas since 1962.

Mr. Johnston served his country in the United States Air Force as an Airman 1st Class. He served all over the Pacific working as a Forward Air Controller and was on standby for Temporary Duty Assignment. Art was a man of many talents and interests. He was a licensed pilot and owned his own small airplane, was a skating instructor at the skating rink, and was a trampoline champion for the state of Michigan. Mr. Johnston also served as a missionary in South America for World Radio Missionary Fellowship where he helped build a radio system capable of a world broadcast.

For many years, Art owned and operated Photos By Art where he worked side by side with his beloved Dolores capturing countless images at local sporting events, schools, and other memorable life events. Art and Dolores were also foster parents to over 300 children. Mr. Johnston was a devoted Christian man and was currently a member of Hillview Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents Mr. and Mrs. Johnston, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Dolores Johnston, son Calvin Johnston, and his brother Robert Johnston.

Survivors include his daughter Rhonda Johnston; son Andy Johnston and wife Kathy; sister Nadyne Ryder; grandchildren John Weaver and wife Erin, and Kristina Bishop and husband Clay; great-grandchildren Jordan, Jayanna, Jaycee, and Jaylee Bishop, Landen, Lilee, and Lanee Weaver, and Lindsey Fannin; and a host of other family and friends.

A private, family burial for Mr. Johnston was held on November 19, 2025, at Butcher Cemetery in Cherokee County, under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home. A celebration of life service for Mr. Johnston will be held at a later date.
