Artemio "Art" Velasco Soriano of Cedar Grove, N.J. was born on November 12, 1945 and went to his eternal rest on March 10, 2025.
He was born in Manila, Philippines to Agapito Soriano Sr. and Filomena (nee Velasco) Soriano. He graduated with a degree in Nautical Engineering from Mapua Institute of Technology. In 1977, Artemio moved to the United States, initially residing in Queens, N.Y. before moving to Cedar Grove in 1987. Prior to retiring, he was employed with P&R Trading in E. Rutherford and previously worked as a production supervisor for 30 years with Kiehl's New York and L'Oreal in Hackensack.
Artemio ran numerous marathons, played jai alai and chess in Rego Park and Queens. One of his true passions was his love for the game of tennis. "Artie" as he was known on the tennis courts by many, was an avid fan, player and dedicated coach. Artie also enjoyed watching many U.S. Open matches in Flushing Meadows, NY. He shared his knowledge by teaching at the Glenfield Tennis Club in Glen Ridge and worked part-time during his retirement.
Predeceased by his parents, Agapito and Filomena and sister, Aurora Rosario. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 ½ years, Liwayway L. Soriano; beloved children, Sunday Hill (Ian) and Allan Soriano, precious grandchildren, A.J., Trey, Mia, Ella and Luke; five siblings, Cesar Soriano, Lourdes Soriano, Cornelia Balmes, Agapito Soriano Jr., and Lusito Soriano as well as many nieces and nephews who called him Tito "Temie" and sister-in-laws and brother in-laws who loved him as "Kuya Temie".
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025, from 4-8 p.m. at Shook's Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Avenue, Cedar Grove.
