Arthur Hampton Cantrell, 92, of Jacksonville, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at home on June 27, 2022. Art was born and raised in Ellijay, Georgia to Weston and Lena Cantrell. He met and married Geneva, his wife of nearly 69 years, in Okeechobee, Florida.
Art lived serving God, his country, and his loved ones. He retired from the United States Army, having served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a faithful member of the Bayou Meto Baptist Church. Art was a quiet and patient man who loved model cars, tinkering with lawnmowers, and attending his great-grandsons’ baseball games.
Art was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters. He is survived by two siblings, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Art is survived by his loving wife, Geneva; son, Bill Cantrell and his wife Cindy of Scott, Arkansas, Rick Cantrell and his wife Katrina, of Woodlands, Texas. Also surviving are grandchildren, Ben Cantrell, and his wife Linsey, of Jacksonville, Arkansas, and Josh Cantrell and his wife Simone, of Newnan, Georgia, Kendall Cantrell Akins and her husband Cody, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Mary K. Cantrell of Marfa, Texas. Art has three great-grandchildren, Blake, Caleb, and Isla.
Visitation will be 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Smith Sherwood Funeral Home (7700 Hwy 107) with a funeral service following at 10:30 AM. Art will be laid to rest following the funeral at Arkansas State Veteran’s Cemetery in North Little Rock, Arkansas.
