Arthur Cusack Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 11, 2013.
Fondly known as "Q," "Cusack," "Art," and "Artie," Arthur was born in Paterson, New Jersey on September 28, 1948 to the late Arthur James Cusack, Sr. and Johnetta Dix Cusack. The oldest of three children born to Arthur and Johnetta, he was predeceased by a brother, Alvin Jerome Cusack, and is survived by a sister, Dr. Jacqueline L. Cusack. Arthur was raised in the church family of Macedonia Church of God in Christ that was established by his step-grandfather, the late Rev. Russell C. Logan and grandmother, the late Mary Robinson Logan in Paterson, New Jersey. Singing in the choir, ushering, and attending Sunday School were an important part of his childhood life. Arthur attended School Number 18 in Paterson, New Jersey, Euclid Elementary/High School in DeLand, Florida, Saints Junior College of the Churches of God in Christ in Memphis, Tennessee, and Eastside High School in Paterson, New Jersey. One of the highlights of his academic career was singing in the Saints Junior College Choir under the direction of the esteemed Dr. Arenia C. Mallory, President of Saints Junior College, at one of the annual National Convocation of the Churches of God in Christ in Memphis, Tennessee. Music was a predominant theme in Arthur's life. In his early years he sang gospel music at church functions with his two siblings, Al and Jackie, under the direction of their mother, Johnetta Dix Cusack, and under the tutelage of the gospel recording artist, the late Rev. Abraham Houston of The Gospel Clefs. He also sang duets with his sister, Jackie. As a youngster, Arthur used to take on the role of a "DJ," playing music loudly on a record player that he would position in his bedroom window -- much to the chagrin of the neighbors. His eclectic taste in music ranged from the recordings of Rev. James Cleveland and Al Green to Rev. Timothy Wright and Smokey Robinson. Arthur had a great personality and often boasted of being handsome as well as irresistible to "the ladies." He was also an avid reader and shared a love of fashionable clothing with his brother, Al. His first wife was the late Arminta Wheeler Pace, with whom he had three children, Arthur James Cusack, III, Alvin Jerome Cusack, II, and Angela Renee Cusack. He was later united with the late Tonya Baucum and had one child, the late Jeneen Carlea Cusack. Arthur was a member of the Smith Memorial Church of God in Christ, Newark, New Jersey where he had a special bond with the Pastor, Rev. Dr. Cornelius H. Evans. He long enjoyed a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and depended upon His grace and mercy to sustain him through the challenges that he faced in life.
