Arthur DeMaio, Artie, of Old Bridge, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on November 4, 1938, to the late Ferdinand and Angela DeMaio, Artie was raised in a lively home with devoted parents. He attended Erasmus Hall High School, where he began building the foundation of the hardworking and devoted man so many would come to love.
While riding a subway train one fateful day, Artie met the love of his life, Sara, a story that has been lovingly retold for generations. The two were married on May 24, 1959, and went on to share a beautiful 67 years together, filled with love, laughter, and family.
In 1961, Artie and Sallie settled in Queens, where they began raising their family before moving to Old Bridge in 1973, the place they would proudly call home for the next five decades.
Artie was a dedicated truck driver for an incredible 70 years, officially retiring in February 2025. He took great pride in his work and truly loved being on the road, a passion that reflected his tireless work ethic and commitment to providing for his family.
A skilled handyman, Artie transformed his house into a warm and welcoming home, doing much of the work with his own two hands. In his younger years, while living in Queens, he volunteered with the Rosedale First Aid Squad and enjoyed coaching his children in soccer, a sport he loved and shared with his family.
Artie loved traveling and cruising the world, often enjoying new adventures alongside Sallie and their loved ones. He also cherished dining with family and friends, creating lasting memories over good food and laughter. Artie and Robert shared a remarkable bond that began when they were just five years old. Their friendship stood the test of time, growing even stronger when life took a joyful twist, Artie married Sallie, and Robert married Sallies sister, the late Mary Garcia. It was always a fun story to tell, how two best friends from childhood became family by marrying two sisters, sharing a lifetime of memories, laughter, and love together.
Artie was also well known for his famous meatballs, a family favorite made from a closely guarded recipe that he shared only with a select few. But above all, Artie was a man devoted to his family. He cherished every moment spent with them and took immense joy in watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow.
Artie is predeceased by his parents, Ferdinand and Angela DeMaio; his beloved daughter, Julie Ann Pallister; and sister-in-laws Mary Garcia, and brother in law, Craig Bronish.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Sallie; his loving children, Art and wife Ruth DeMaio, and Chris and wife Carolyn DeMaio; and his son-in-law, Darrin Pallister.
He also leaves behind his adored grandchildren: Anthony and Elizabeth DeMaio, Victoria and Seth Bowers, James DeMaio, Joseph and Kristina DeMaio, Virginia and John Brennan, Mickey Feis, Marc and Jessica DeMaio, Danielle Pallister and Michael Pantaleo, Briana DeMaio and Tom Herell, Christa and Trevor Cykowski, and Cara DeMaio; along with his fourteen great-grandchildren and one more soon to arrive, Artie is also survived by his sister in law Phyllis Bronish and partner Bruce MacDougall, cherished friends Robert Garcia, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Arthur will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His kindness, humor, work ethic, and love for his family will live on forever in the hearts of those he touched.
A Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Friday at Saint Ambrose located at 83 Throckmorton Ln Old Bridge, New Jersey 08857.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, New Jersey.
