Arthur J. DeVarney, affectionately known as "Sonny," age 83, passed away on November 7, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born in Leominster, MA, on May 24, 1942, where he remained a lifelong resident. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Arthur was a creative soul, known for his talents as a model maker at Foster Grant. His dedication to his craft was evident in his 55-year tenure with the company. After his retirement, he continued to be a "jack of all trades" with his amazing ability to repair and build almost anything. He took pride in his beautiful koi pond which flourished under his care.
Arthur was a loyal and active member of his community, donating blood on a monthly basis, sharing a piece of himself with others in need. He served as an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 12 out of Our Lady of the Lake in Lunenburg and was a life member of the Leominster Sportsman's Club. He was a member of the Foggia club where he and his team, "It Doesn't Matter," enjoyed playing bocce with the focus on fun and fellowship. Arthur also enjoyed camping with his family, snowmobiling, fishing with his grandsons and relaxing with a bourbon.
He was a talented and dedicated individual, but what mattered most to Arthur was his family. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, Sheila (Senecal) DeVarney, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage since their wedding day on December 16, 1961. Arthur was also a loving, supportive father to his son, Michael DeVarney and his wife Samantha, his two daughters, Laurie DeVarney Fulton and her partner David Vautour and Dawn Palmaccio and her husband Patrick. Countless cherished memories were made with his grandchildren, Dean Nelson, John Nelson, Allie Reynolds, Holley DeVarney, Lily DeVarney, Joshua Spangenberg, Daniel Spangerberg and Matthew Houle. They were a great source of pride and joy in his life. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Sr., mother, Armande DeVarney, brother, Roland DeVarney and son-in-law, Donald Fulton.
Arthur was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Cecilia's Parish where he attended weekly services with Sheila. A verse that we can remember Arthur by is from the Book of Matthew, "Well done, good and faithful servant... Enter into the joy of your master." (Matthew 25:23)
We invite all who knew and loved Arthur to leave their memories and upload photos to his memorial page at https://my.gather.app/remember/arthur-devarney .
