Arthur E. Graves

Arthur Eugene "Hookum" Graves, of Jeannette, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023, in Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. Hookum was born Sept. 6, in Connellsville. He was son of the late Herbert Graves and Irene (Love) Fitzpatrick Graves Morgan and stepson of the late Kelcy Morgan. Arthur was a member of Rock of Refuge (formerly known as Zion Hill Baptist Church) in Jeannette. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his paternal grandfather, Bramlin Fitzpatrick; and grandmother, Mariha (Wilson) Fitzpatrick.; two sons, Darnell Williams and Darwin Berry; brothers, Herbert (Cootie) Graves, Howard (Buddy) Stanford Graves and Bernard (Finley) Graves; and two sisters, Francis (Mae) (Graves) Barnes and Irene Delores (Graves) Montgomery. Arthur is survived by his loving wife, Avery (Hall) Graves; sons, Arthur (A.J.) Graves Jr. and his wife, Martine, of Penn-Trafford; Michael Graves and his wife, Cheryl, of Greensburg; and Arthur (Buttons) Jackson and his wife, Sophea, of San Jose, Calif.; daughters, the Rev. Christine (Graves) Vincent and her husband, Ryan of Greensburg, and Toi (Graves) Braunlich and her husband, Thomas, of Jeannette; brothers, Frank Morgan, of Pittsburgh, Larry Morgan, of Florida, and Michael Boykin, of Indiana; sisters, Beverly (Morgan) Delts, Shiela Morgan and Deborah Morgan, all of Jeannette; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Prior to Arthur's retirement from Columbia Gas, he was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and also worked at Latrobe Construction Co., Latrobe; PPG Industries, Greensburg; and Edgar Thomas Steel Mill, Braddock. Hookum enjoyed motorcycles and was a member of the following motorcycle groups, the Pittsburgh Night Hawks, ABATE and Peacemakers. He was a very active person and loved his family and people. He very seldom missed visiting the sick and shut-in, and was always willing to giving a hand. He was also a bus driver for several school districts, a coach for Jeannette Midgets, and the get back coach for Jeannette Senior High School. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, in the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette. Additional viewing will take place Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of the service, in Living Word Congregational Church, 2003 Ridge Road, Jeannette, with the Rev. Roy Aiken Jr. officiating.
