Arthur Clifford "Bob" Guhl

I thought of Bob today, not sure why, but I had just finished reading of the passing of the Reverend Robert Schuller...Oh well.... I regretfully missed that Bob had passed away back in December and am sorry to hear it. While I didn't know him well, he played a rather substantial role in my 'previous life' in politics. I lost my first race to Bob for the Georgia Senate seat he held and won my last race against him for the Georgia House seat I held. In between, we served together in the General Assembly for two terms. I remember speaking with Manuel Maloof about our common history of both having lost to Bob in our first political race. While Bob and I would annoy one another on occasion, I always had an affinity for him and admired his service to our country and state. I liked him so much that I refused to have him 'drawn out' of the revamped House District for which I was the incumbent in 2002, although I knew it might mean the difference between my running unopposed or Bob making one last run. I guess I liked the back and forth we had with one another in the end. Bob had a great energy and, as warmly conveyed in the obituary, lived a full and blessed life. I wish Shirley and his entire family the best. Rest in Peace Bob.

May God bless the Guhl family at this difficult time and bring you comfort as you recall the many happy memories that you shared with Arthur. I look forward to a better life for all of us at a better time! (Matthew 6:10)

Many heartfelt words have been shared about Arthur Guhl and the man of great character he proved to be. I am hoping that they bring some comfort to the family if only for a little while. Harold and I are so sorry to hear of your loss. We know how devastated you all must be for we,too, have lost our mothers and fathers and there is simply nothing but time and turning to the Lord that will heal your hearts.

Our last lose was that of my mother on Feb. 28,2012 at the age of 91.

Bob has been one of my personal heroes for many years. He was a good man, eternal optimist, and a real people-oriented person. I had the privilege of working for him on behalf of DeKalb County government for several years. He devoted many years to public service, not for personal gain or notoriety, but to help people have better lives. He always had a great smile and positive attitude no matter what the circumstances. My prayers and condolences go to his beloved children and his wife Shirley.

My condolences to Mr. Guhil'swife, family and friends. I read Mr. Guhl's obituary in its entirety. I am inspired. He was an accomplished man. He saw where work was needed and jumped in to make a difference. I get the impression that it was not
all about politics for Mr. Guhl but it was about helping his fellow
men. He was well rounded in that he enjoyed corporate life, family and travel. Mr. Gulh lived a full life. I love that he took the time to help abused children, and to work with rescue horses. An accomplished man. And I am sure all of his efforts are appreciated. May he rest in peace.
