Arthur Jackson “Jack” Hilliard, 84, of Goldston, died Sunday, March 1, 2026.
Jack was born in Chatham County on September 29, 1941 to the late Joe C. and Berta H. Hilliard. He worked in the poultry industry most of his life and started his own poultry equipment supply store, Jack’s Supply, in 1987. Later as the business grew he and his son, Kenneth, incorporated the business that is still located in Candor NC. Jack enjoyed the spirit of competition. In his early years Jack excelled in football and baseball and was an accomplished race car driver in his #49 Chevy at area tracks. You could often find him on the golf course or with friends playing rook, and cheering for the Duke Blue Devils. He was a very generous and giving person who enjoyed helping others in his community. Most of all Jack loved his family, especially spending time with his granddaughters that he affectionately called “Tinker” and “Tadpole.”
Jack is survived by his son, Kenneth Hilliard and wife, Stacey, of West End; sister, Nancy Hilliard Shaw, of Goldston; brother, Danny Hilliard and wife, Betty, of Bear Creek; granddaughters, Kendall Hilliard of Nashville TN and Caroline Hilliard of Washington, D.C., nieces and nephews, Marty Shaw, Beth Shaw Yow and Tonya Hilliard Jolly; former wife, Carolyn Hilliard; and caregiver, April Garner.
Services will take place on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Gaines Grove Primitive Baptist Church, with visitation at 1:00 PM and funeral at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Gaines Grove Cemetery. Elder Zach Byrd and Rev. David Hicks will be officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Gaines Grove Cemetery Fund c/o Lucy Emerson, 137 Oren Gaines Road, Goldston NC 27252.
