Arthur "Art" M. Matichak, 78, of Harrington, passed away on December 20, 2025 at Delaware Hospice Center. He was the son of the late Sylvester and Kathleen Matichak of Bayonne, NJ
Art proudly served in the US Marine Corps for 4 years. After his time in the military, he started working for Texaco in Bayonne, NJ which became Equilon and later Shell Oil Co. He retired from Shell Oil Company in Charleston, SC in 2004. Art and Ann moved to Delaware to enjoy their retirement.
In his younger years, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Later on his love for cars, especially the corvette, became his main interest. He took pride in fixing up his first corvette and through the years, trading up to newer models. He also enjoyed eating out with his friends and family. His favorite sport was football and his team the NY Giants.
Art was a member of St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in Harrington, a member of the VFW, and a lifetime member of the American Legion.
Art is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Ann Matichak; son, Brad; brother, Joseph Matechak; neices, Denice Beard; Jaime Casey, Jodi Sak; nephews Kevin Matechak; Jason Sak; two Great nephews, Johnathan Matechak, Anthony Hawks and two Great Nieces, Mia and Avery Casey.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 28, 2025 from 2-4 PM at the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025 at 11 AM at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 109 Dixon St., Harrington, DE. Burial will take place at 2PM at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro , DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations may be made to: St. Jude’s's Children's Research Hospital.
Arrangements are by the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home Inc, Harrington.
