Arvid Earl Sullivan passed away March 31, 2023 at his home in Vernal, Utah from complications of cancer.
Arvid was born in Roosevelt, Utah on September 28, 1944 to Rondo and Beth Sullivan.
He was raised in Vernal Utah; he attended Central Elementary and graduated from Uintah High School. Arvid later married his high school sweetheart Leta Shiner Sullivan.
While attending high school, Arvid was given the opportunity to learn how to cut meat in the meat department at Safeway. He later went on to manage the meat department at Albertsons in Bountiful, Utah. Following Albertsons, Arvid began a 40-year career of driving truck for various companies, including Sowards, Western Petroleum and Pilot, transporting fuel mainly to and from the Wasatch Front each day. Arvid loved driving truck, and was known as
"Stick" to his fellow truck drivers with whom he forged lifelong friendships. Arvid took great pride in his work and in his truck, always keeping the interior immaculate and the whole truck well maintained. Upon retirement he received an award for over 4 million miles of safe driving.
Arvid was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served as the Bishop of the Vernal 9th ward and blessed the lives of many. He also had the privilege of serving many years in the scouting program, in addition to fulfilling a 2 ½ year service mission with his wife, as coordinators for the young single adult program.
Arvid loved being active! He set an amazing example of making health and exercise a priority. In his early years he loved playing basketball and later was an avid runner and cyclist.
Arvid loved his family and enjoyed supporting his kids and grandkids at various sporting events and activities.
Arvid is survived by his loving wife Leta Sullivan; Children, Cory (Tina) Sullivan of Tomball, Texas; Arden (Lani) Sullivan of St. George, Utah; Wendi (Quin) Dickson of Vernal, Utah; Dori (Daren) Kelly of Vernal, Utah; Shannon (Dale) Batty of Richfield, Utah; Morgan (Stefanie) Sullivan of Vernal, Utah; Jeremy (Madisen) Sullivan of Salt Lake City, Utah; 22 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Arvid is preceded in death by his parents Rondo and Beth Sullivan and brother Leonard
Sullivan.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 11 AM at the Vernal Stake Center, 850 W. 100 N. Viewings will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM at the Blackburn Mortuary and Wednesday morning from 9:45-10:45 AM at the Stake Center.
