I met Asher on the golf course 10 years ago. Since that time we have played over 500 rounds of golf together and became very good friends. When you spend 4 hours during a round of golf you can not help but learn the character of the man. I have been blessed with these numerous rounds of golf with Asher and have found Asher to be one of the most kind, caring and compassionate people I have ever encountered.
Asher, a true gentleman, golf ambassador, enriched the quality of life of all he encountered. Yes, we are broken by what is lost, but we are so much greater from his being.
Asher, my friend, I will see you on the back nine

As sad and painful as it was to lose Asher, it was a blessing to know him and a consolation to attend his funeral. He lived virtuously and joyfully. He died peacefully and prayerfully. He was buried reverently in the tradition of his ancestors. During and after his funeral, I kept thinking of the kind things he did, the intelligent things he said, and the good times we had together, whether it was chatting in my childhood home as college students, dining in an Italian restaurant as middle-aged men, or studying birds in Croton Point Park as senior citizens.
Asher taught the young to play sports and the old to spot eagles. In the process we learned techniques and information, but more importantly, how to approach life and treat others. The love and affection of the colleagues, friends, and family who knew him and gathered at his funeral were real and palpable. We were touched and changed by our encounters with Asher and will keep his memory in our hearts for years to come.

Asher was a great man, I´m so glad that I got to be part of his life. I first met him on the golf course thru our mutual friend Scott. He was such a pleasure to be around, and you could sense he had a big heart. He would often share his stories with us about the First Tee kids and all the great things he was doing with them. He was sunshine on a cloudy day, always giving me encouragement when my game was struggling.
I will miss him dearly and aways be thinking of him when we are on the links.

As others have said, Asher was a kind, caring, and thoughtful friend. It was always a pleasure speaking with him and enjoying his sense of humor. Asher played a big role in my professional life. So much of what I´ve learned about title insurance came from working with Asher. Even after we were no longer colleagues, he always helpful to me on substantive issues and he was my first call when making career decisions.
I will miss Asher greatly. I wish Susan much courage in the tough days ahead. Asher was blessed to have you at his side during the good times and the bad. I admired Asher for being a proud Jew and for being passionate about his observances. Family yahrzeits were very important to him which speaks volumes to his dedication to his family.
May the Neshama have an Aliyah.

How can you put 25 yrs or a life time to just a few words? It's almost impossible.
These are just a few of my thoughts of Asher......
I worked with Asher for almost 25 yrs and there are just far to many stories to write down. He was a brilliant lawyer. He was always so intense when got closer to closing yet another $1b deal. Asher only worked on the monster ones! There was no one better in the entire country then Asher.
The morning chats in Craig's office, catching up on the Mets and his golf game over the weekends, pulling all nighters to get a deal closed, and the occasional box kicking or chair thrown over the conference room table at 3 am. So many stories. Oh, and how can I forget those lime green shorts and matching top he sometimes wore to the office! And how he loved that straw Cuban fedora! And when I was really annoying him, and I did, he would march into Craig's office and say "bebz is driving me crazy, I am going golfing and not coming back!".
Now let's talk about Ashers devotion to his family. I am sure many of you know that his sister, Betty, was born with many challenges and disabilities. Asher cared for her his whole life. There was nothing he wouldn't do for her. He was a true "big brother".
Then there was Lilly. His love of his life. When she got sick with ALS he did everything humanly possible to help and comfort her. For over six years she couldn't get out of bed and every night and weekend when he wasn't at work, Asher was there to help and hold her hand right up to the end.
Asher was and is the true poster boy of unconditional love for your family.
I will miss him as will all of us that had the privilege to work with him and be part of his circle of friends.
Love you Asher

PS....how can I forget his sense of humor. At least 20 yrs ago Asher had a friend who was a baker and made truffles. So he got me to buy 500 tins of truffles and send them to my clients for Christmas. We did a tasting and they were pretty good.
Well, first week in January Christine, my right arm at work, and I started getting the calls. All the truffles had mold on them when my clients opened the tin!
I went Asher to tell him what happened and he said "well, they tasted pretty good when they came out of the oven!"! And with that i got over the moldy truffles saga.

We loved Asher so very much, he was so kind and thoughtful to everyone, and so fun to be with. We will miss his sense of humor, his love of golf and NY Mets, and especially his love for our cousin Susan. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

Coach Asher was so kind to our daughters as their First Tee Golf Coach! He was always so patient and affectionate and he loved teaching the kids! The kids loved all the treats he would bring and they will miss him very much.

When our family thinks of Asher we will always remember his bright smile and hugs when he enters a room for a holiday, birthday or just to visit with his beautiful Sue by his side.
Asher loved family .His strong love and caring for family always shined when he was conversing or just listening to the on going conversations of the adults in the room : he especially enjoyed the children communicating with them about their activities , schedules and school.
He was such an awesome person to have conversations with - especially when it came to travel , sports and world events. When it came to sports - and his golf career which he greatly enjoyed and loved to share his knowledge of the sport- but in trying to explain it to me as it was hopeless. But one thing we did have in common besides our love of family is baseball. He as an avid Mets fan and I am a Yankees fan . We did have our laughs concerning the leagues . I myself love to banter with him about sports.
Asher we are all going to miss that smile , hugs and laughs. We love you .

Asher was the best friend anyone could have. He showed his friendship in so many ways-by truly listening, generously opening his home and his heart to those he loved, sending thoughtful (clever and funny) messages on special occasions, and being there when you needed him. Our whole family-Roger, Arla, Cyrus and Isaac-will hold his memory dear forever.

In Loving Memory
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Asher Fried who left us on August 3, 2025 after courageously fighting a long and very difficult illness. Though his body grew weary, his spirit remained unbroken, and his love for life, his partner Susan, nieces, our mother, family, friends, The Hickory Golf Club and Fanny the cat never dimmed.
Asher lived with an open heart and generous spirit. His passion for the law was matched by his love for golf, where countless friendships were forged over the years. Asher approached every endeavor with love, integrity and humor.
Above all, he was a man who gave quietly and humbly to others. His generosity knew no bounds, offering guidance to those in need by teaching young and upcoming golfers, supporting causes close to his heart, and always being present for friends and family. He possessed the rare gift of making everyone feel valued and so very loved.
His love for family ran deep, and his partnership with Susan brought him immense joy. Their shared adventures and quiet moments together were treasures he held dear.
Though we mourn his passing, we celebrate a life marked by kindness, principle, and enduring love. Asher will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His memory will continue to inspire all who were privileged to know him.
With Love and Great Respect,
Andrew ( Brother ) Elyssa & Tracie ( Nieces )
