Athea Wilson Obituary
Athea Evon Wilson was born on May 16, 1940, in Jacksonville, Florida to Ned Wilson and Annie Mae Fowler. She attended public schools in Duval County, graduating from Matthew W. Gilbert Jr./Sr. High School. Sister Wilson also attended and graduated from Edward Waters College. She retired from Duval County Health Department after forty years of dedicated service as an X-Ray technician.
Athea was a dedicated member of the Incomparable Ladies Social Club since 1972 (52 years) where she once served as secretary. She joined New Redeem Missionary Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of Reverend L. C. Way. She also served under the leadership of Reverend G. G. Webb, Reverend Dr. E. I. Norman, Reverend Willie Addison, Sr., and Reverend Derrick Mercer, Sr. until her health began to decline. Her areas of service included: member of Choir #2, Mass Choir, Senior Usher Board, District #4, and president of Missionary Society. Sister Wilson once served as vice president and president of Union #2 and a member of the Women's Auxiliary of Emanuel Progressive Baptist Association where she once served as the secretary/treasurer and contact for transportation. For many years, she supported and traveled to the Florida General Baptist Convention.
Sister Wilson slept away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. She was preceded in death by her father, Ned Wilson; mother, Annie Mae Fowler; and brothers, Sammie Wilson, Sammie Smith, and Geoffrey Wilson.
Sister Wilson life will forever be cherished as she is survived by her son, Adrian Wilson; grandchildren, Markeisha Mims and Adrian Wilson, Jr.; one great grandchild, Dior Boston; brothers, Benjamin Fowler (Archie), Donald Fowler (Mary), and Robert Wilson (Dorothy); sister, Patricia Wilson; sister-in-law, Linda Wilson; nieces, Kesha and Sheran; nephews, Eric, Benjamin, and Tony; a host of great/grand nieces and nephews; goddaughter, Tanya Haywood Murray (Osborn); special friends, Doris Hamilton Wilson, Arlisha Holmes, Shirley Kennedy, Shirley Harris, Joann Johnson and Teri Jennings; and a host of cousins and many sorrowing friends.
