Aubrey Pittman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lewis Funeral Homes & Crematory - Milton Chapel on Feb. 12, 2026.
"Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life."

- Revelation 2:10

On February 9th, 2026, Aubrey Gene "Jimmy" Pittman, age 82, of Munson, Florida, man of God, pastor, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, received his crown and entered the presence of his Lord and Savior.

A native of Santa Rosa County, Jimmy was born on September 29th, 1943, in Milton, Florida, to Edward and Mary Lee (Hinote) Pittman. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a Morse Intercept Operator and was released from duty in 1966. He later graduated from the University of West Florida, earning a master's degree in social work.

"For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh."

- Ephesians 5:31

On March 26, 1966, at Pleasant Home Baptist Church, Jimmy married his soulmate, Lois Vermel (Stokes) Pittman. Together they shared 59 years of devoted marriage, rooted in the Christian values of love, faith, forgiveness, and service to the Lord, which were the cornerstones of their life together.

"And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding."

- Jeremiah 3:15

For more than 50 years, Bro. Jimmy devoted his life to the service of the Lord, preaching the Gospel as both an evangelist and pastor. His first church was Oak Ridge Assembly of God in Crestview, Florida, followed by Children's Home Assembly of God in Paxton, Florida, and Springhill Assembly of God in Munson, Florida. For the final 20 years of his life, he faithfully served as pastor of Springhill Baptist Church, also in Munson. He based his ministry on faithful obedience to Christ, a deep love for people, and a steadfast commitment to preaching the Word of God. The teachings of Apostle Paul and the book of Romans were some of his favorites, but many of his sermons were rooted in the new commandment found in John 13:34 - That ye love one another; as I have loved you. His life was a living testimony of walking by faith, loving and forgiving freely, and feeding God's sheep with wisdom and grace.

"Take heed and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth…But rather seek ye the kingdom of God."

- Luke 12:15; Matthew 6:33

Jimmy lived and loved a simple, country life. Never a rich man by the standards of the world, he was content with what God provided-and God provided immensely. His family was never hungry, never without clothing, and with their mother by his side, their home was always warm and cheerful. His family was his riches, his walk with God his investments, and the people he ministered to were his dividends. Proverbs 13:7 says - "There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches." In that respect, Jimmy was a very wealthy man. Known as "Poppy" to his grandchildren, he lived not for himself, but for his sons and grandchildren. Wherever there was a need for his children, he was there.

"The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him."

- Proverbs 20:7

Preceded in death by his wife-who, as he often said, "beat me to it"-Jimmy is survived by his two sisters, Judy (Clifford) Parker and Diane (Dennis) Butts; his three sons, Wayne (Valerie) Pittman, Justin (Olivia) Pittman, and Daniel (Rebecca) Pittman; his grandchildren, Zachary, Austin, James, Emma, Jackson, Paige, Carter, Claire, Jordan, Jayden, and Lauren; and his two great-grandchildren, Rayden and Lily.

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

- 2 Timothy 4:7–8

"Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice." - Philippians 4:4

Bro. Jimmy will be deeply missed by all of us who knew and loved him; yet we rejoice in the knowledge that he has crossed over to Canaan, has heard the words, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant," and is now wearing his crown of life. Glory to God!
