Audra Ceora DeMarcus, 89, of Marion, Indiana, passed away on April 18, 2025, in her home surrounded by loved ones. A devoted educator, community servant, and cherished mother and grandmother, Audra's life was a testament to kindness, faith, and unwavering dedication to others.
Born on August 17, 1935, in Marion, Indiana, Audra was the daughter of Archie and Ceora Durnil. She remained deeply rooted in her hometown throughout her life. After graduating from Marion High School, she pursued her passion for education by earning a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Marion College. She later advanced her studies with a Master's Degree in Education from Ball State University.
Audra dedicated 24 years of her professional life to nurturing young minds as a teacher at Mississinewa Community Schools. Her commitment to education extended beyond the classroom; she was known for her patience and compassion toward every child she taught.
Beyond her career in education, Audra was an integral part of the Central Indiana Bluegrass Association, where she served as secretary for an extraordinary 43 years. She developed a love of bluegrass after meeting her husband, Kenny, and she remained a lifelong supporter, winning multiple awards for her work as secretary of the Central Indiana Bluegrass Association. Her passion for bluegrass music was not only a personal joy but also a bridge that connected her with countless friends and fellow enthusiasts across the region.
Faith played a central role in Audra's life. She was a lifelong member of Marion First Friends Church, where she found spiritual strength and community. Her involvement in the church reflected her deep-rooted values of service and compassion.
Audra's family was the heart of her world. She is lovingly remembered by her sons, Stephen "Steve" (Justine) DeMarcus, James "Jim" DeMarcus, and Kevin (Betsy) DeMarcus; daughters, Cindy (Alan) DeMarcus and Jennifer Hamilton; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Her home was always open to family gatherings with warmth and kindness.
She now joins in eternal rest with her beloved husband Kenneth DeMarcus; her parents Archie and Ceora Durnil; her sister Anna Creech; and her brother James "Jimmy" Durnil.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Marion First Friends Church, located at 2211 N. Wabash Ave., Marion, Indiana. A second visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 29, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the same location. A funeral service celebrating Audra's life will be held on Tuesday, April 29 at 1:00 PM at Marion First Friends Church. Burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Gas City.
Audra Ceora DeMarcus leaves behind a legacy of generosity, faithfulness, and love that will continue to inspire all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort and peace to those whose lives she touched.
