Audrey Marie Lentz, age 88 of Austin, TX, died September 25, 2024.
Audrey was born on September 6,1936, to Elmer and Myrtle Schmeling in Watertown, SD. She was raised with her 8 siblings: Lyle, Arlyn, Maxine, Frank, Carol, Donna, Deanna and Jan. The family was raised on a farm north of Watertown. Audrey attended a one room country schoolhouse at Rauville District 13 for K-8 education and then attended public school in Watertown, SD.
Audrey married LeRoy Lentz on May 29, 1955 in St Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown. They were blessed with four children; Nikki, Scott, Jeff and Lee. After working at several hotel and department stores, she found her calling working for Northwestern Bell. She started employment in Watertown helping customers acquire phone service and assembling the phones prior to installation. Thus began a long career of service with Northwestern Bell and Southwestern Bell in Oklahoma and Texas.
She married Bill Reid May 23, 1987 in Austin. Bill, originally from Cleveland, relocated to Austin and helped Audrey secure her townhome which is filled with many memories. They lived their fullest enjoying each other, traveling, and advancing their individual careers until Bill's death in June 1990.
She married Dan Schuckenbrock May 20, 1995 in Austin. With Dan she enjoyed many trips to see family and friends. One year Southwest Airlines gave a free ticket for every purchased ticket, a companion travel ticket. They did not let that offer go to waste. Dan and Audrey traveled extensively, sharing countless wonderful adventures together until Dan's death in January 2021.
Audrey loved her family the most. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She really enjoyed visiting family and was always prepared to welcome anyone anytime! Audrey also thoroughly enjoyed dancing and was cherished by her friends. She will be greatly missed by her adoring extended family.
Audrey is survived by her four children; Nikki (Doug) Keffeler, Watertown, SD, Scott (Lynne) Lentz, Watertown, SD, Jeff (Lynne) Lentz, Chandler, AZ, Lee Lentz, Austin, TX, her sisters; Carol Flores, Los Gatos, CA, Donna (Dick) Auby, Hills, TX, Deanna Borns, West Bend, WI, Jan (Jim) Rogerson, Arlington, TX, and her companion, James Mathenia. She taught him to dance and they went every week. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, her brothers; Arlyn, Lyle, and Frank Schmeling and an infant brother in childhood, her sister; Maxine Johnson, her husbands; Bill Reid and Dan Schuckenbrock, and one great grandson Race Engels.
