Audrey S. Whiddon

Audrey S. Whiddon of Greensboro, Georgia passed away February 17, 2026. She was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and grew up in DeLand, Florida. She made her home in Brunswick, Georgia, where she raised her family. Later, she and her husband James Whiddon (deceased) moved to Kingsland, Ga., where they were active members of the community. She was residing in Greensboro, Georgia at the time of her passing.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Whiddon, and her sisters Anne Couey and Carole Bahn. Audrey is survived by her sister, Brenda Noesen, and her brother, Rodney Smith. She leaves behind her daughters Bonnie Cross Sandfelder (David), Brenda Cross, and Becki Cross Trujillo (Nick), as well as her grandchildren Ben, Amanda and Daniel Sandfelder. She is also remembered with love by many nieces and nephews.

Audrey spent much of her career as a bank teller and later retired from civil service at Kings Bay Naval Base. Though she was always artistic, she discovered her passion for painting at age 50. In her 60s, she brought that talent to the public, creating murals that still brighten the downtowns of St. Marys, Kingsland, and Odum, Georgia.

A woman ahead of her time, Audrey had a gift for connecting with people. She was fun , full of life and shared her opinions freely. She believed deeply that everyone has a story worth hearing — and she treasured each one. Her curiosity, creativity, and generous spirit touched everyone who had the good fortune to cross her path.

Her legacy lives on in the art she created, the stories she collected, and the family who love her.

Audrey did not want a public service. She would want her friends and family members to make a point to live in the moment. Schedule that trip, ask someone to tell you their story, do the one thing you’ve always wanted to do. Don’t wait.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society. Mother endured several types of cancer and decided she didn’t like any of them.
