August Binkert Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brownlie & Maxwell Funeral Service & Crematory on Mar. 1, 2025.
August Leo Binkert III passed away on February 9, 2025. He was born on August 17, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois to the late August Leo Binkert Jr. and Valerie Rose St. Germain Binkert. He is survived by his wife, Sherry Bias Binkert, son Joseph Sage August Binkert, step-daughter Jennifer Massey (Matthew), step granddaughter Haley Warner, stepson Jonathan McCoy (Brandi), sisters Louise Behling, Jeannine Janicki (Bob), Michelle Triezenberg (Fred), 3 nieces, 7 nephews, 4 great nieces, 13 great nephews, and countless cousins.
August was a man of diverse talents and a lifelong dedication to technology and personal growth, who leaves behind a rich legacy. From his early days as an electrician and programmer, he embarked on a career journey that showcased his adaptability and expertise. He excelled in roles spanning data processing, project management, and software development, making significant contributions to organizations like Health First and BlueWare. August's leadership in implementing new systems, streamlining processes, and mentoring colleagues left a lasting impact on those he worked with. He was a champion for improvement, always seeking ways to simplify and optimize.
Beyond his professional life, August explored the realms of self-awareness and enlightenment, sharing his insights and reflections in his published works, "A Path Toward Light" and "Toward Light – Meditations." On December 14, 2024, Aug received his 5th Dan Black Belt Masters in Tai Chi. August was an avid stargazer, more than just one who watches the stars, but one who was fascinated by the universe. Aug, and his close friend Leon, would take frequent trips out west; telescopes loaded into a camper, solar panels and computers scattered about in order to photograph our beautiful universe. For months after returning home, Aug would continue to process the images he and his friend had taken, all the while joking with one another and discussing what they might get up to next. Aug loved the journey, the photos, the friendship, and all of the tinkering, messing with telescopes and image processing those journeys brought him.
He was not just a builder, creator, and craftsman with an unmatched eye for perfection- but a truly great man. He dedicated his life to his family, greeting everyone with a smile of warmth and compassion. His passion for knowledge, his commitment to helping others, and his pursuit of personal growth defined his life and will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. He was genuinely unmatched in this world, and we are all lesser, for not having him physically in it. May he forever be among us and the stars.
