August O. "Gus" Schmidt, Jr., 95

August O. "Gus" Schmidt, Jr., 95, of Meyersville, NJ, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ.

Born in Newark, NJ on December 16, 1929, Gus was the son of the late Mary (Pankow) and August O. Schmidt. He was a lifelong resident of Meyersville, where he built his life and raised his family.

Gus began working at a young age and spent many years as a mechanic with the David Smith Steel Company before continuing his career with United Steel Deck, both located in South Plainfield, NJ. He retired 33 years ago.

He was a proud member of the Vintage Thunderbird Club and treasured his 1960 Thunderbird. Gus was also active in the Long Hill Township Senior Citizens and the Stirling Elks Lodge in Stirling, NJ.

He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Schmidt.

Gus is survived by his beloved wife, Frances J. (Church) Schmidt; his son, Neil J. Schmidt; his daughter, Jane M. Schmidt, and her husband, Edward Zajkowski; his brother, Robert Schmidt, and his wife, Leslie; and his sister-in-law, Charlotte Schmidt. He is also survived by his cherished granddaughter, Jessica Zajkowski, and her husband, Patrick Colchie.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from 10:30 to 11:30 AM at the Valley Memorial Funeral Home, 1012 Valley Road, Gillette, NJ. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 AM at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Meyersville Cemetery, Gillette, NJ.
