Aulden Dean Reynolds
(1941-2024)
Aulden Dean Reynolds of Fairfield passed away at his home on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Clinton, ME. on August 23, 1941, to Elmer "Casey" and Mary (Stewart) Reynolds.
He attended Fairfield schools until he enlisted in the US Marine Corps. He was stationed in Camp Lejeune, NC where he earned his High School diploma. After he was discharged, he returned to Fairfield to marry his long-time love, Andrea Grendell on February 9, 1963. They shared 61 years of marriage until his death.
In 1964 he and his step-brother, Dwayne Scanlin, decided they wanted to rejoin the armed services. Dwayne had been in the Navy and was reupping. It sounded good to Aulden so he decided he'd try the Navy. He was stationed at Charleston Naval Shipyard, Charleston, SC. His duty was driver for a Rear Admiral for 14 months. When the Admiral retired Aulden requested to be transferred into a SeaBee unit, and was stationed in Davisville, RI. where he joined MCB#7. His last deployment was to Vietnam which changed his life and health forever.
He gave 36 years to the Fairfield Fire and Rescue Department serving as Deputy Chief for several years. He was instrumental along with Dwayne Scanlin and Darrell Benner in starting the Rescue Department. He was always involved in both.
He worked 16 years at Keyes Fibre, then had multiple jobs, including several years at Mardens. Right after the flood of 1987 he and his wife bought "Sweets Lunch" on Main Street in Fairfield which they operated as "A & A Family Restaurant." This closed in 1995 due to his ill health.
He was predeceased by his parents, in-laws, Bill and Dorothy Grendell of Fairfield, infant grandson Ryan Dean Reynolds, sisters Arleen Smith of Fairfield, Sharon Shingle of CA., Joyce and her husband Dennis Elkins of Thorndike, brother Gary Reynolds of Fairfield/Canaan, step-brothers Dwayne Scanlin of Fairfield, Lawrence "Tank" Scanlin, Jr. of Clinton, half-brother Merlon Reynolds and his wife Florence of Farmington, brother in-law Robert (Bob) Grendell of Escondido, CA., Step father Lawrence Scanlin, Sr. of Fairfield and siblings Roger, Lloyd, Gail, Carol.
He is survived by his wife Andrea of Fairfield, son Chris and wife Linda of Huntsville, AL; daughter Cathy and husband Michael Fhay of Huntsville, AL; grandson Chris of Brecksville, OH; granddaughter Beth of Columbus, OH; brother Randy and Sally Reynolds of Old Orchard, Me; sisters-in-law Laura Theriault of Waterville, Ruth Grendell of Escondido, CA., and Debby Reynolds of Waterville, nephew Mark Jenkins, nephew Bill Jenkins and wife Becky, and daughter Abbey of Vassalboro; and many nieces and nephews in Maine and California. He leaves behind our 2 dogs, "Lady Jane" and "Chloe Ann" and one cat "Ali" who are missing his evening snuggles.
We would like to extend, "From our hearts", thanks to niece Suzanne Jenkins who stayed with him when I had to be out.
Thank-you to the ladies who went above and beyond for us, bringing in food, offering to shop for us if we needed, and just being here for support. The family is grateful for Darcy Smith, Shelly Willy, Jody Liberty, Nikki Carter, and Michelle Hunter. We appreciate your love and support through this very difficult time. God Bless All.
