Ausencio Lezama, a spirited and loving soul, passed away peacefully at his home in Orange, California, on April 27, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on October 2, 1936, in San Andres, Veracruz, Mexico, Ausencio's life was a testament to his faith-filled and joyous spirit.
From the cobblestone streets of Orizaba to the sun-kissed avenues of Orange, Ausencio's journey was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family and his craft. He met the love of his life, Sara Matilde Viviano, as a young man in Mexico. Their love blossomed over several years of courtship before they married, embarking on a remarkable journey of companionship that lasted over 73 years until Sara's passing in 2016. Following her death, Ausencio relocated to the United States to be closer to his children, embedding himself in the heart of their lives in California.
Ausencio's work ethic was as strong as his character. Despite never having a formal education, he started working at a tender age, quickly becoming known for his beautiful artistry. His early years saw him painting stunning murals on buildings, capturing the essence of his homeland. As time passed, he transitioned to painting and construction, careers that he pursued with passion and diligence for many years.
His interests were as colorful as his paintings. Ausencio found solace in music, often listening to tunes while his brush danced across canvases. He raised chickens with care, tended to his garden with love, and was particularly renowned for his chayote-a testament to his green thumb. Soccer was another of his passions, and he relished in the excitement of watching games on TV. Friends and neighbors would often find him on his front porch, beer in hand, taking in the world with a contented gaze.
Family was the cornerstone of Ausencio's world. He was a master of light-hearted pranks, bringing laughter and surprise to those around him. He reveled in being at the center of family gatherings, entertaining relatives with stories and jokes, making every event a cherished memory. His home was a hub of warmth and joy, a place where everyone was welcome, and celebrations were frequent and heartfelt.
Ausencio's faith illuminated his path throughout his life. His belief was his compass, guiding him through life's trials and triumphs with grace and humility. Those who knew him would describe him as spirited, loving, and faith-filled-a man who embraced life with open arms and inspired others to do the same.
He is survived by his adoring daughters, Susana, Julia, Maria De Jesus, Gloria, and Sandra Garcia, who will forever cherish his memory. His legacy also lives on through his nineteen grandchildren and thirty four great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved immeasurably. Ausencio was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sara Matilde Viviano, his sons, Martin and Angel Garcia, and his daughter, Rosario Garcia.
