Austin Lynn Smith, 32, of Nixa, Missouri, passed away on November 22, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on August 9, 1993, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Austin was the cherished son of Melissa and Kevin Smith.
Austin lived a life defined by perseverance and devotion.
From a young age, Austin faced unimaginable challenges after being diagnosed with Goodpasture syndrome and fighting end-stage renal disease since the age of 16. Yet, he never allowed illness to define him-his strength and spirit inspired all who knew him. He graduated from Dexter High School in 2012 and went on to earn his Associate's degree in law enforcement from Three Rivers College-a testament to his perseverance and dedication.
On October 20, 2025, Austin married the love of his life, Nickie Dasto-Smith. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, love, and unwavering faith. He was the proud father of two boys, Elias and Wesley, and was overjoyed knowing he and Nickie were expecting their first daughter, Calliope Renae, due in January 2026. Austin's devotion as a husband and father was evident in everything he did. His smile could light up any room, and his dark, witty sense of humor left lasting impressions on friends and family alike.
Austin's talents went far beyond his resilience-he was a gifted "Mr. Fix It," passionate about cars, tools, and any project that brought him closer to his family. His dream was to share that love with his boys, teaching them the joy of turning a wrench and the satisfaction of finishing a job well done. Austin had an eclectic taste in music but especially loved 90's country. Austin also took immense pride in his family and their accomplishments. Most recently, his wife, Nickie, completed her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. Austin encouraged her with unwavering support and dedication to follow her dreams. A devout Christian, Austin's faith guided him and provided comfort throughout his life and illness.
Those blessed to know Austin will remember his contagious smile, fierce love for his family, and his dark, twisted humor that could bring light to any situation.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ron and Vickie Gibbs. He is survived by his wife, Nickie; his sons, Elias and Wesley; his parents, Melissa and Kevin Smith; his siblings, Jakob Burns, Sarah Smith (Ben Johnston), and Steven Smith (Macayla Owens); and countless friends and relatives who loved him deeply.
A Celebration of Austin's life will be held on December 13, 2025, at 5 p.m. at the Stardust Ballroom, 305 W Walnut Lawn St, Springfield, MO. All who loved Austin are welcome to attend and honor his remarkable life.
