Auther R. Howard departed this life on January 24, 2026, in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was born on December 25, 1955, in Hornersville, Missouri, and lived a life marked by unwavering dedication to his family, service to his country, a genuine passion for the things he loved.
An Army veteran, Auther served overseas in Korea. He carried that same sense of responsibility into his everyday life, where he demonstrated his devotion through various interests and hobbies. He found joy in outdoor activities, including gardening and mowing the yard, and was particularly passionate about home defense—enjoying shooting guns with an emphasis on safety. Auther was known to take meticulous care of his cats and dogs, showing the love and compassion he had for all creatures.
Auther was a member of Purcell Church in Rector, where he built lasting relationships and engaged with others who shared his values. He was always well-informed about current events and politics, keeping himself knowledgeable and involved in discussions that mattered to him.
Auther is survived by his loving wife of 4 years, Olivia Howard; his son, Cameron Johnson; his sisters, Rhonda Pyle and Teresa Tucker; and his best friend, Chris White.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wendell Howard and Geneva Christine Cullens; his brother, George Howard; and his grandparents, Dorothy Loraine and Zachary Auther Cullens.
The family will receive friends Friday, January 30, from 2:00 p.m. until service time at Phillips Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with Tony Rhynes and Danny Standley officiating. Burial will follow at Cardwell Cemetery.
Daniel Standley, Cameron Johnson, Chris White, Daniel Cox, Kelvin Standley, and Charlie Cox will have the honor to serve as pallbearers.
