When I was first hired at the program he was one of my first friends. Getting into the office at 5 in the morning I always knew that Mr. Avery would be sitting at his desk and ready to talk about whatever was going on. Over the time that I was blessed with knowing him he turned into one of my most valued friends, mentors, and one of the only people I know that did not hold back and always gave it to me straight no matter what. I miss him everyday when I come into the office in the morning now it is not the same.

Summer Commissioning in August 2023 a couple of days before I retired.

The last Summer Commissioning Ceremony in August 2023. It was held at the Capital and we all gathered in a private room to celebrate the students who Commissioned that day. In the picture it is Avery, 1LT Jackson, and myself a coworker of Averys just before I retired. When I think of working at UT Avery will for ever come to mind and I will hear his voice and how he would draw my name out to get a smile from me.

I want to give my condolences to all the family and friends who lost a great man and friend.
Avery Flemings and I served together in the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Alpha Battery 2D BATTALION 44TH AIR DEFENSE ARTILLERY REGIMENT DURING Southwest Asia (Gulf War) Desert Storm and Desert Sheild in Defense of Saudi Arabia and Liberation and Defense of Kuwait in the U.S. Army from August 1990 to August 1991. We met and forged a strong friendship. During and after we deployed, Avery was always cracking jokes and treating others as he would like to be treated. He was my Road dawg, that the nickname we referred to each other by; a happy guy, and I was glad to deploy with him.
We spent months together, surrounded by constant chaos. Avery and I monitored checkpoints together.
When we returned home, Avery kept in touch. we were reassigned to the U.S. Army Recruiting Command; we kept in touch. Thanks to Cynthia for informing me of our lose. My Combat Buddy and friend. Much Love to My Road Dawg.

My deepest condolences to Avery´s family and friends during this time of bereavement. Extended blessings of comfort for his daughter and granddaughter.
Sadness has been upon me since hearing about Avery´s transition to heaven. He was truly a great man and friend in so many ways.
I first met Avery when we both worked at NC A&T State University where we became friends. I moved back to Pennsylvania in 2013 before he moved to Texas. I thought of him often over the years remembering our fun times together and his love of football and NASCAR.
On Sunday, May 5, 2024, I thought to share with Avery that my grandson had been sworn in to the U.S. Air Force/ U.S. Space Force. Knowing how dedicated Avery was to his work with the ROTC Cadets during the academic year and summer, I understood he would appreciate my excitement for my grandson starting his military career. I sent this information to Avery in a message. A couple of days later I was notified of his passing.
Rest In Peace Avery, You will forever hold a special place in my heart. Stephanie M. "Steffie"

My Deepest Sympathy goes out to family. We grew up together as family and he always had that smile on his face. I called him to help my daughter when she was in college with ROTC , it was nothing but a word. Always was such a nice person. RIP

I met Mr. Fleming as a Cadet at UT. He was a true light in this world and I will never forget everything he did to ensure my success as a new Lieutenant. I will never forget out talks and the mentorship he provided me. Mr. Fleming always had a smile on his face and made me believe in myself. He impacted my military career more than he will ever know. I will miss him, may he rest in peace.

I knew Mr. Flemming with in ROTC at UT Austin. He was an unwavering and dependable comfort with any problem you had and always went above and beyond to support the Cadets, Cadre and any other person who came across his path. May he rest in peace and be forever in our thoughts.

Mr. Avery was a great man and friend, he would bend over backwards for anyone in need. He always had a smile on his face and someone you could always talk to. When I was the SMI at UT AUSTIN ROTC he was the man to get stuff done for the cadets. He will be missed by me and all the ones he helped.

I knew Mr. Avery as the cadet contract coordinator at the University of Texas. I never knew him to be in anything other than high spirits; he had a presence that made all around him feel like everything would turn out just fine. He offered me guidance and encouragement when I was down, at the price of "doing the same for others when you're in a position to do so." Mr. Avery was a crucial figure in my early Army career, and he will be missed by many.

Mr. Fleming was one of the most kind hearted positive leaders I've ever had the pleasure of working with. Humble and hardworking he always made things happen for Cadets when no one else could. I would not be an Infantry Officer or in the unit I wanted without his advocacy and support. I'm sure he'll continue be an Angel watching over us just as he did during his life.

I met Mr. Fleming while in college. He is one of those types of people that will leave an everlasting impact on your life. Till this day, I randomly think about the words of encouragement and laughs we shared as I was finding my way through college. His positive memories and wisdom will live on through me! RIP Mr. Fleming.

Mr. Avery was the kindest person I´ve ever met. I was a cadet at UT and I had a ton of issues with contracting and more. I bothered him more often than not and we built a good rapport. When I was hesitant about me future, he always believed in me and it meant a lot. He had full faith and patience with me and I loved seeing him every day.

I just noticed that the photo is from when he was in Germany in the 3rd Armored Division, I can't remember if we ever talked about that because I was in that same division too. I am still trying to process this. I don't know what I'm going to do when I get to Ft. Knox and realize he won't be there. He was such an awesome human being, and he will truly be missed. Camp won't be the same without him.
