In memory of
Joan Rice
August 8, 2025
My mother was a classmate of Avery Grant at Bronx Science. He was alphabetically after my mom Feinsilver. He was so intelligent, smart and good looking and a nice person to know. My mother is dictating to me since she lost finger flexibility with computer keyboards. She has a picture
that I can send to her family of the two at a reunion. My mom was widowed a few years ago and just had such fond memories of Avery. My email is [email protected] and if anyone wants the picture my mom can send it to them. What a special generation! May the memories of Avery live on in the retelling of how special he was.

I was out of country and just returned and got this message. Mr. Avery Grant was one of the faithful men on earth I have ever met, putting his love to St. Lukes' UMC and the community in Long Branch, NJ. I still remember his passion for uplifting his African-American young men and women for better life through higher education. I miss him a great deal. - Jungrea Chung

I worked with Avery on a Fort Monmouth project in 1991. A true gentleman and professional. Ten years later after my father died, Avery donated to pancreatic cancer research in my father's memory. I never forgot that kindness.

My sincere condolences to the Family of Mr Grant.
I met Mr Grant in 1986 while working at the Ft Monmouth Officers Club and later became his neighbor when I moved in 1997 to my house at Atlantic Ave. I enjoyed many nice conversation with Mr Grant and his wife. Any time Mr Grant did not see my for a few days he came to check up on me which I really appreciated. When I moved back to Germany in Dec 2020 and I went to say my goodbyes it was sad since I knew we would probably not see each other again
Rest in heavenly peace my dear friend and neighbor
