Avis Maurine "Abby" Carrillo

Avis Maurine Carrillo, better known as Abby, of Spiro, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was born on August 20, 1945, in Smith County, Texas, to the late Judson Hughes and Maudie (Waller) Hughes. She was 79 years old. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia English; and her siblings, Annie Marie Boyd, Clifton Douglas Hughes, Helen Louise Tieken, Verla Delorice Karnes, Dorothy Elizabeth Freeman, J.D. Hughes, Billy Joe Hughes, James Oliver Hughes, and Baby Girl Hughes.
Abby was a retired banquet waitress at the Bellagio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. She made many friends and met many celebrities throughout her career in Las Vegas. She lived life to the fullest and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by two granddaughters, Porscha Caballero and husband Matthew Connors of Greenwood, Arkansas, and Kennedy Vermilya and Shane Turner of Fort Smith, Arkansas; three great-grandchildren, Mattison, Nash and Rylee. Abby was one of 13 children and is survived by two brothers, Vernon Hughes of Overton, Texas, and Jerry Hughes of Springfield, Missouri; and also several nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
