Mrs Hokans was a splendid buddy. She'd laugh and joke with us especially during summer camp. I had learned to imitate Jonathan Winters' Maude Frickett voice. I used to do it for Mrs. Hokans and it would crack her up. She was a terrifically fun woman to be with and share fun. Bless her heart.

I first met Avis when she helped me become a better stick shift driver. She allowed me to drive her VW bug around Worcester. She always gave me a sense of being the "big sister" full of advice on a variety of issues too numerous to say here but always with wry wit and careful guidance. My most memorable time is when she played the role of a gun moll in the Huntington Actors Club doing the play "On The Night Of January 16th" a court room scene much like the Perry Mason series. I played the part of Bailiff and saw up close her terrific acting capability.
I went away for about 30 years working for the government all over the world and lost track of all my friends. Nevertheless, the Hokans' were always in my mind whenever I'd recall memories from the past. I pray she will rest in piece behind her final curtain.
