Awtrey "Bit" Minchew

Awtrey Patrick "Bit" Minchew, 53, passed away at his home on August 18, 2025. He was born September 24, 1971, in Waycross, Georgia, and had called the Jacksonville area home for many years.

Bit was a graduate of Ware County High School and spent nearly 33 years working as a machinist with Swisher International and Bacardi Rum Corporation. He was hardworking, dependable, and proud of the friendships he made through the years.

He loved the outdoors-whether it was hunting, fishing, boating, or jet skiing, if it meant being on the water, Bit was happy. Music was also a big part of his life, and he especially enjoyed bluegrass and playing his banjo. Some of his best days were the simple ones: cooking out, laughing with family and friends, or just soaking up time on the water.

Bit was preceded in death by his parents, Harrell Wayne Minchew and Norma Jean Minchew. He is survived by his daughter, Abigail Julina Elizabeth Minchew, and her mother, Trina Smith; his brother, Harrell "Buddy" Minchew (Kristy); his nephew, Ryder Minchew; along with many other relatives and friends who loved him dearly. He was of the Baptist faith.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Event Center at Peeples, 14165 N. Main Street (Building C), with Rev. Ray McMillan officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather an hour earlier, at 5:00 p.m., to visit and share memories before the service.

Bit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his laughter, music, and love for life will remain in our hearts forever.
