Barbara Aldcroft Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 2, 2025.
Barbara Ann Aldcroft (nee Stringer) passed away peacefully at the age of eighty-seven, surrounded by loving family, into the glorious presence of her Lord and Saviour, on August 14, 2025, in Ajax, Ontario, Canada. Dearly beloved in her community, known for her boundless love, caring nature, and a mischievous streak that brought joy and laughter to all who knew her.

She was born in Toronto, Ontario on December 12, 1937. Barbara's first job was in the grocery business, but she later worked primarily in housekeeping and the hospitality industry.

Her generosity and commitment to serving others was evident in her active church life; working with youth at Scarborough Gospel Temple, ushering at Christian Life Centre in Ajax, and singing, while her husband David played musical keyboards, at Family Worship Centre in Uxbridge and in local long-term care homes.

Barbara was a creative soul, expressing herself through drawing, often cartoons, and writing poetry. She also loved dressing up as a clown, to the delight of children, and was affectionately known by her grandchildren as "Grambo" - a nickname inspired by her favourite action hero. She loved to bake and was very well-known for her sweet, jam-filled cake treats called 'maids of honour'.

Barbara is survived by her husband David, sister Carol (Jim), sons Mark, Paul and Anthony, and daughter Corry (Ron). She was a proud grandmother to Krystal, Nicole, Jason, Michael, Anthony, Colt and Tye. She will be dearly missed by nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. Barbara was pre-deceased by her brothers Teddy, Lionel and Arthur, her granddaughter Paige, and her parents Ben (Stringer) and Elizabeth (nee Cox).

The family gratefully acknowledges the amazing caregivers at Abbeylawn Retirement Home in Pickering, the wonderful staff at Ajax Pickering Hospital and the professional and caring team at DeStefano Funeral Home in Oshawa.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Barbara's honour on Saturday, September 6, at 2 PM, at King Street Community Church, 611 King St W, Oshawa, ON. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Barbara's memory can be made to Teen Challenge Canada.

I think that when Frank Sinatra sang his famous song , "I Did it My Way", it was really about you, Barbara....

"I´ve lived a life that´s full,
I´ve traveled each and every highway,
But more, much more that this,
I did it my way."

Like a force of nature, and a tempest in a teapot, you wore your `bossy pants´ well. During our outings to seek treasures, attend medical appointments and the grocery stores, I saw your spark, your humour and ability to set things straight with everyone. You always made me laugh, a lot! But no matter where we were or what we did, you always worked the situation your way. So thank you for leaving me with the laughs, the tenacity to just me, the courage to do it my way and your lovely set of bossy pants.

Corry and Ron. We are so sorry to hear about the loss of Barbara and understand the pain you are going through. We are praying for you and your extended family in this time of grief. She is in the arms of Jesus now, the One she loved so dearly, so hold firm in the faith and know that her mission is complete. She was dearly loved and impacted the lives of so many. What a gift.
