Published by Navarre Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Sep. 30, 2009.
Barbara Jean (Odom) Allen, 61, a life long resident of Baytown, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 30, 2009. Barbara was born in Baytown on October 25, 1947, the 2nd of 4 children to Beatrice and Fisher Odom. Barbara had a strong faith in God and loved to dance and sing for the Lord. Her family knows that is what she is doing now. Barbara held her cosmetology license for many years and was a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). She worked for several area doctors before moving to geriatric care in area nursing homes. Barbara loved to decorate her house, make artificial floral arrangements and work in her yard. In July 2009 she was recognized with the Cedar Bayou Garden Club Yard of the Month for which she was very proud. She was a loving "Mam Maw" who cherished time spent with her grandchildren. Barbara was preceded in death by her father and is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Johnny Allen of Baytown; mother, Beatrice Odom of Baytown; siblings, Scharlotte (Odom) Hughes and husband Sam of Baytown, Denise Odom and husband Victor Boiles of League City and Glen Odom and wife Suzanne of Baytown; children, Rodney A. Evans and wife Celeste of Baytown, Annette (Evans) Durrett and husband Charles of Houston, Melissa (Davenport) Allen and husband Stephen of Baytown; stepdaughter, Angela (Allen) Espinosa and husband Miguel of Burlingame, CA.; grandchildren, Rodney Jr., Hunter, Sophia, Ashley, Abbey, Brooke, Morgan, Tessa and William; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev. Sam Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at San Jacinto Memorial Park in Houston. Serving as pallbearers will be Victor Boiles, Charles Durrett, Rodney Evans, Jr., John Hall, Rick Johnson and Stephen Allen.
