William Slater II Funeral ServiceBarbara Beacham Anderson, 84, of Mt. Lebanon, PA, and formerly of Manhasset, NY, and Erie, PA, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025. She was born on August 28, 1941, in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of the late Richard and Josephine (Grossman) Beacham.
Barbara grew up in Erie and graduated from Allegheny College, where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and the Kappa Delta Epsilon honorary educational fraternity. Upon graduation, she married fellow Allegheny alum C. Grant Anderson, to whom she was married for more than 62 years. The young couple lived in Ithaca, NY, while Grant attended Cornell Law School, then in New York City and Roslyn, NY, before settling in Manhasset to raise their family.
In the early years of their marriage, Barbara was a dedicated elementary school teacher in New York public schools. While raising two active boys on Long Island, she also kept busy as a part-time real estate agent, devoted dog-lover, gardener and flower enthusiast, and avid reader. To keep up with the Anderson boys, she played tennis, joined in many family ski trips, and was a loyal fan of multiple sports every season.
Throughout their lives together, Barbara and Grant loved attending cultural events, traveling, and playing competitive social bridge—interests that reflected her curiosity and love of learning. After returning to Pittsburgh, where they spent the last 34 years of her life, Barbara remained active as a hospice volunteer and as a proud supporter of and volunteer with the Friends of Pittsburgh Opera.
She is survived by her husband, Grant Anderson of Mt. Lebanon; her two sons, Ken Anderson and his wife Kate of Windham, Maine, and Ed Anderson and his wife Beth of Durham, N.C.; and her grandsons, Lee Anderson and Holden Anderson, who brought her great joy.
She is also survived by her beloved sister, Betsy Sceiford (George Teribery) of Erie, PA; her sister-in-law, Nan (Maury) Cashman of Warren, PA; and several nieces and nephews: Laura Sceiford, Amanda Steeneck, Michael Sceiford, Henry Lanman, and Sheila Lanman.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Barbara’s life on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at William Slater Funeral Service, 1650 Greentree Rd., Scott Twp., PA 15220. All are welcome to gather beginning at 1:00 p.m., with a service to follow at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Family Hospice, Development Department, 700 Bower Hill Road, Suite 1405, Pittsburgh, PA 15243. www.slaterfuneral.com
