Barbara W. Barnes was a loving, strong, God-fearing, and devoted woman whose life centered on her faith and her family. She was deeply devoted to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her church, which were the heart of everything she did.
She was born on May 22, 1947, and graduated from Trinity High School. She devoted her working life to the hosiery mill and furniture manufacturing industries, where she was known as a dedicated and hardworking employee.
Barbara had a true love for sewing and was well known for sewing not only for herself, but for family, friends, and members of the community. She also lovingly cared for and helped raise countless children over the years, leaving a lasting impression on every life she touched.
She was the daughter of the late James Greene and Geraldine Welborn, and was lovingly raised by her grandparents, Flayvella W. Cunningham and Grady Cunningham.
Barbara was a faithful member of Liberty Grove Baptist Church, where she served as Church Secretary, President of the Missionary Ministry, member of the Pastor's Aid, Church Announcer, and member of the Welcome Committee. She was a dedicated supporter of all church events. She had been a member of the Liberty Grove Community Choir, singing at both Liberty Grove Baptist Church and Liberty Grove Methodist Church, and faithfully supported the Methodist church's Women's Day programs and annual revivals.
She was preceded in death by her brother, James Greene, Jr., and her sister, Evelyn Greene.
She is survived by her children, Lori Barnes and Larry Barnes, Jr. (Rhonda); her grandchildren De'Anthony, Brandon, Malcolm, Jayzen, and Micheala; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, along with extended family. She is also survived by four loving friends, Carolyn Belo, Mary Sue Alexandra, Larry Barnes, Sr., and Jerome Porter, and a host of other friends as well, who checked on her, supported her, and were there when needed.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Home,
Archdale, North Carolina. A viewing link will be available for those unable to attend.
