Barbara Brown Obituary

Published by Chapel Memorial Funeral Home - Waterbury on Feb. 12, 2021.
Ms. Barbara Shirlena Brown, 53, of Central Ave, Oakville, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, February 12, 2021 in Waterbury, at Waterbury Hospital. Barbara was born on November 4, 1967 in Waterbury CT, to the late Evonnie (Jones) Brown and Arthur James Sr. and was raised by the late Theodore Brown. Barbara, who was affectionately known as "Skoonky" to those who grew up with her, was educated in the Waterbury public school system where she graduated from Crosby High School Class of 1985. She continued her education at Briarwood college. Barbara spent her childhood in Long Hill Projects and was a longtime Waterbury resident. She briefly relocated to Atlanta Georgia before returning home to start a career in the banking industry. Her career in banking spanned over 30 years. Barbara recently celebrated her 20th anniversary at Webster Bank as a Bank Officer and Fiduciary Operations Specialist. She was an avid reader, loved to bake, watch sports (especially the Dallas Cowboys) and spend time with her family. Although it is impossible to list all of Barbara's accomplishments today, everyone knew that her greatest accomplishment was her daughter Tiffany Brown. Tiffany was Barbara's world. She not only loved Tiffany, she loved her entire family. One of her favorite past times was to be with her family, from apple/pumpkin picking with Tia, Camren and Aniya, to going on cruises with "The Aunt's", to hours long conversations with Rochina "Moni" Brown and Mike "Yammy" Brown, she always put family first, sometimes even before herself. She was also an "Information Junkie" so much so that her daughter affectionately nick-named her, "Snapple Cap" because as Tiffany said, "she's knows so many random facts". She also knew the names of all the people who worked downtown with her over the years. She always took the time to get to know people because that was just who she was, a beautiful person inside and out. Through her eyes, she believed you could learn something from everyone. Mother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Friend and Confidante, Barbara Brown you will be greatly missed! She leaves behind to cherish her memories one daughter; Tiffany Brown of Oakville CT, four sisters; Denise Perry-Lowe, Theodora "Nute" Brown of Oakville, Valerie Brown, and Theresa Fox of Waterbury, two brothers; Theodore "Junior" Brown III of Oakville and Arthur "Starr" James of Danbury, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, a host of friends, and extended family. Barbara was predeceased by her eldest brother Alfonso "Groove" Brown and her sister Patricia Ann "Pat/Slim" Brown.
