Barbara J. Cory

Barbara J. Cory, 82 years old, of Yonkers, New York, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her adoring family, on December 5, 2023.
Barbara was born in Manhattan and also lived many years of her childhood in the Bronx. Her cherished father, William Elio, was stationed abroad in the Philippines during World War II while Barbara's devoted mother, Mary Elio, worked to manage the household and young Barbara. At the age of 8, Barbara received the gift of the birth of her baby sister, Karen. Barbara and Karen have remained close throughout the years and up until Barbara's passing, continued to live just around the corner from each other.
Barbara graduated from Evander Childs High School in the Bronx and then began working at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Manhattan. It was there, at "The Met", as it is fondly called by many, that she met and fell in love with her cherished husband of 54 years, Stanley. Until Stan's passing in 2019, he and "Barb", as he lovingly called her, enjoyed many healthy, happy and fun times together and were essentially inseparable.
Barbara and Stan had two children together, first Cindy and then Gregg, and Barbara delighted in being a stay at home mother to her precious children, whom she was extremely passionate about. Barbara's family was the absolute most important part of her life. Barbara remained very close with both Cindy and Gregg and she found much joy and happiness in her relationships with her three grandchildren, Justin Woods, whom she absolutely adored, Jessica Woods who was her very best friend and Joseph Cory, whom she was very proud of.
Barbara loved spending time and having lots of laughs with her sister Karen Kozloff and Karen's husband, Barbara's brother in law, Kenny Kozloff. Barbara felt comforted in knowing that Karen and Kenny were always just a phone call away, and would be at her side quickly in any times of need. Barbara also treasured her relationship, including the many phone calls and welcomed visits with her niece, Krista Rizzo, and her great niece, Briana Rizzo.
The family will be present on Friday, December 8th, 2023 from 4-8 PM at Ruggiero & Sons, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Services- 732 Yonkers Avenue- Yonkers, New York 10704. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 9th, 2023 at Saint Barnabas Church, 409 East 241st Street- Bronx, New York 10470. Following the Mass, Barbara will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Avenue- Hawthorne, New York 10532.
