Owatonna - Barbara Dewey, age 101, of Owatonna, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025. She was born and raised in Owatonna on March 27, 1924, to the late Henry and Barbara (Lunde) Head, one of four children. Barb graduated from Owatonna High School in 1942, and afterwards she had worked for Dr. Donald Dewey as a medical technician. On November 24, 1946, Barb and Dr. Donald had married in Pine Island. She continued to work part-time for her husband while raising their three sons. Barb and Donald were married for 43 years until his passing in 1989.
Barb was a lifetime resident of Owatonna, never leaving the community that she called hers. She nourished the community by volunteering as a first responder/EMT in Nisswa, acting as president of the Medical Auxiliary, and performing hearing and vision testing at local schools for several years. When she was able, Barb played the harp and taught private lessons. Barb and Donald had made several trips to Europe while visiting his brother; her favorite countries being Germany or Austria. Spending time outside and enjoying nature gave Barb some peace, especially their trips to Florida and Gull Lake, both to fish.
Faith was deeply important to Barb, as she was a devoted and lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Owatonna.
Barb is survived by her sons, Bill and Charles (Judy), both of Owatonna; grandchildren: Donald, Amber (Chris) Nelson, Matthew, Andrew, Kristen, Chris, Thomas (Angela), James (Kristina), and Kathryn; many great-grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, James; siblings: Henry Head, Merton Head, and Elizabeth (John) Sletten.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna. A visitation will be held from 10 am until the time of service. Barb will be laid to rest at Forest Hill Cemetery.
